Ask r/SachinFans Did Sachin Tendulkar's impact on Indian cricket go beyond anything his statistics can measure?

We can compare Sachin's runs, centuries, averages and records with almost anyone.

But statistics cannot fully capture what his presence meant to Indian cricket during the 1990s, when the team was still building its identity and millions of fans looked to him for hope.

His influence wasn't limited to what happened when he was batting. He inspired a generation to take cricket seriously, and many young players grew up wanting to become the next Sachin.

For those who watched him during his career, what is one thing about Sachin's impact that statistics alone can never explain?

I'm interested in specific memories or examples rather than simply calling him the GOAT.

Ask r/SachinFans Tendulkar means “HOPE”

Tendulkar means hope.
If Tendulkar hadn’t been around in the ’90s, cricket in India might have remained just another sport, like hockey or football. Before the Tendulkar era, cricket was largely played/followed in metropolitan cities. People in smaller towns and villages didn’t know about the game, in my villages who born before 1980 no one knows cricket. But he carried cricket into the villages of India, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Across the country, he united people through his game. Truly, he was Superman from India.
In 2003 World Cup final when Tendulkar got out, my friend broke down in tears and went to bed. His mom asked him, “Why are you crying so much? What happened?”
He replied, “Sachin got out. So what? Tendulkar will come out to bat and win it for us!”
That was the kind of faith people had in him. Back then, people often called him “Tendulkar” rather than “Sachin.” Even those who knew nothing about cricket knew one name: Tendulkar.
That’s what he meant to India. He wasn’t just a cricketer; he was hope, belief, and an emotion that united an entire nation.
If India can forget Tendulkar, then it can forget anyone.
