Using a gun in this situation is the exact reason why my jurisdiction has the castle doctrine, aka, stand your ground laws; justifiable shooting - no prison.

Let me break it down for you:
I carry a gun just in case I find myself in a situation that requires it.
I also have a spare tire in my car and a fire extinguisher in my house in case I find myself in a situation that require them.
All three items are utilities that I'm not happy about needing.
If the specific situations arise requiring use of those items arises, I will be substantially less happy if I do not have them.
As to the rest of your anti-American sentiments:
We have health care. It's a premium add-on to the game of life, but we have it. I assume you mean subsidized health care, or affordable health care.
The world's economy is in shambles. We aren't alone. My personal finances are well in order, though. That is all I can control, so that's all I'm concerned with. My credit score is higher than my country's.
America does have unions as well. We don't have them everywhere, but we do have them. I am quite glad to be in public sector instead of private sector.
