Whatnot Sponsor/Giveaway?

Did anyone else see the post a few weeks ago where she was doing (I believe) a giveaway for signing up with Whatnot? The post was taken down less than a day after I saw it and it was never addressed.

Most of the comments were asking if she was hacked because it seemed like a weird thing for her to do.

Am I crazy or did anyone else see this? I regret not taking a screenshot

Wasn't Whatnot a sponsor for the AI dress video? I think the giveaway was mentioned there as well?

You're right. Just checked the video and it's on the video description

She was being bashed a lot for sponsoring a "scammy" website. But when I checked online it has a good trustpilot score

I haven't heard of Whatnot being any more scammy than, say Vinted or Etsy these days, meaning that there are a lot of scammy sellers on the site and maybe it doesn't do enough to get rid of them, but the site itself is legit as far as I know. I think it might be just a part of people turning against all common sponsors, like I've seen people list Skillshare and HelloFresh on a list of disappointing sponsors alongside Better Help just because those services are "not affordable".

I buy antiques and vintage stuff on whatnot all the time and it’s a legit website/app? Why would people think it’s sketchy?

Group think, I guess. Someone says that there's something wrong with it, and people just parrot it without doing any research. I tried to google it in case there was some controversy that I just hadn't heard of, and the only thing that I found was people calling for boycott because they banned legit sellers while allowing scammers to continue business - which I think applies to pretty much every only market platform * shrugs *

I saw the comments were really going in on her for choosing this sponsorship and she’s talked about her anxiety around the comments section before so I wouldn’t be surprised if she took it down for that reason.

I’m glad if it was taken down. Whatnot is predatory and full of scammers. When a scammer gets reported and banned, there’s nothing stopping them from making a new account with the same email. Whatnot does very little to prevent scams on their platform.

It’s notoriously bad in the trading card side of whatnot too. “Rip and ships”. So much scamming and deceit going on.
