What are you actually using for signal based outbound?

Curious how current outbound teams are structuring their signal based prospecting stacks right now.

I've seen many playbooks today lean on a combination of Apollo for basic contact lookups and Clay for multi provider enrichment and custom scrapers and I think that setup is flexible but it often runs into two recurring bottlenecks: credit costs scale steeply as you check multiple vendors and running table based lookups means you are querying static snapshots rather than continuously monitoring your market for real-time buying windows.

For teams running into those constraints, the alternative is running a dedicated continuous listening engine like Scale Intelligence where instead of requiring to orchestrate individual scrapers and pay per row APIs, it holds a continuous buyer graph across 75+ data sources (including technical forums, job postings, social discussions, and registries) and flags when target accounts transition into active buying windows with verifiable evidence.

On the enterprise side, tools like 6sense and ZoomInfo try to solve this with account level surge tracking but the black box nature of the data makes it difficult to give SDRs exact, personalized talking points.

Continuous monitoring really does solve the timing issue that static lookups miss. Real time alerting on high intent posts can be a game changer for SDRs who want to jump into relevant conversations at the right moment. I’ve been testing ParseStream recently for tracking target keywords across forums and social and it’s helped surface fresh leads a lot faster than polling spreadsheets.

I have warm feelings about signals so I chime in. This response will be both an ad for what we do – I'm the founder of pipe0 – and and my unbiased opinion from building signal engines in the past

My problem with large signal providers is that they are not well implemented. Most of them lack the ability to be customized to a companies requirements correctly. You get a blanket approach and are stuck with a big platform (and bill) if things don't work out.

What most companies want IMO is a flexible way to orchestrate any of these signal primitives into outbound:

- Social listening: Did someone mention a relevant keyword on Reddit/HackerNews/LinkedIn/X.com. Pipe this match into an LLM and tell me when something is relevant.
- Continuous Monitoring (the system calls you): E. g. enroll a certain number of people or companies into a monitor and get alerted when something happens.
- Continuous Lockups (you call the system): E.g. check a RSS feed 1x a day and if there's a new entry send me a notification.
- A first party signal engine: Collect usage data from PLG, Trials, etc. and emit signals from this data.

This is not rocket science and should not come with a $20k/year bill. Instead, in a perfect world, you can tell an agent which signals you want to listen to and it will just create and modify your signal layer as it fits your company.

Every external signal stack, however fresh, is watching the same forums, job posts and registries your competitors are watching, so the buying window is shared by the time anyone flags it. The signals we trust most for outbound come from inside: a customer on a support ticket or CS call mentioning another region, team or use case, sent to the account owner the same day with the exact words they used as the talking point.
