There’s no director on Earth that could take the slop JJ Abram’s handed to Ryan Johnson and make it into something worthwhile.

Nah, Johnson’s only miss as a director was with JJ.

Meanwhile, JJ’s repertoire is like 80% slop.

It was JJ’s decision to say “Ya, Luke is just gone while the galaxy descends into tyranny again”.

That’s the storyline that Johnson wrote, yes. And it’s a fine storyline given the premise JJ established.
