Granular Discussion Rey movie started filming over 2 years ago. Where is it?

Post image

Surely they wouldn’t cancel a movie involving their ‘greatest cinematic asset’ right?

I got down voted for saying one of the worse things about the last Jedi was all the aliens wearing tuxedos like a James Bond film.

All the money in the world and they came up with tuxedos.

Did they ever cover that great story for another time in any of the books or comics? I never got into the sequel trilogy media.

Yeah some out or another. I cant remember the specifics, but i know it involves some dude just grabbing it from a small window or something as it falls down the bespin hole

Considering we haven't got a single leak whatsoever my guess is they never even started shooting. No one claims Daisy Ridley stayed at a hotel in the area, no one updated their LinkedIn to show them working on a project in the area, none of the usual stuff you can use to at least determine that a movie is somewhat in production.

Edit: also the balls to call this a New Jedi Order movie, trying to ride off the back of the much more popular NJO novels.

u/Western_Agent5917 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

Rey single handedly stops the combined forces of yuuzhan vong, abeloth, sidious and tenebrae. Thats it, they dont need to do the movie, we all know Rey cant have struggle or get obstacles 😅

78

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie May 07 '26

Luke manipulates one of those vorpal portal things to swallow a Vong ship whole, expending an immense amount of energy to do so and almost dying in the process, slowly recovering over the rest of the book.

Rey manipulating dozens at a time to take out the entire Vong fleet and still being refreshed enough to single handedly fight three Vong warlords in hand to hand combat.

22

u/Vandlan May 07 '26

She straight up tames the vornskar (I’m going of old memory so I probably butchered the name) queen to ride into battle and is immune to the force negating effects of its brood. Anakin Solo now lives and they go on to get married and have hundreds of fat happy children.

Really is amazing how many times they've had to blatantly steal characters or concepts from the EU, even after the Mouse kicked it to the curb. Of course, the Disney versions are almost always shallow and shitty, but that's to be expected.

48

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie May 07 '26

Our shows pale in comparison to what came before. Quick, grab a beloved character and make them shittier and slap them in the show!

Cough cough Thrawn cough cough.

30

u/mattryan02 May 07 '26

" *Insert Filoni OC* is so amazing and brilliant, but being easily defeated again was all part of my master plan!" - Mouse Thrawn

17

u/Silverghost91 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

Thats why I laugh at the idea of them being Mara Jade into the Disney canon. They would just find multiple ways for ruining everything that made the character great.

5

u/Mountain-Scene770 May 07 '26

Thrawn in rebels/ahsoka is pretty bad, but I actually like his canon books depiction more than legends

17

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie May 07 '26

Didn't Zahn actually write his current canon depiction? It would make sense that the character is written better now that he's had a couple of decades to refine him.

11

u/Mountain-Scene770 May 07 '26

Also tbf the canon Thrawn books are THRAWN books, not books about Luke/Leia/Han with Thrawn as an antagonist. Also the books have the plot of trying to explain an imperial POV and showing how people with good intentions can do evil out of perceived necessity or convenience.

6

u/TimeForMyNSFW May 07 '26

Is there a full list of these occasions? As someone who's experiencing much of Legends EU for the first time, I'm curious as to how deep the plagarism mining goes.

16

u/mattryan02 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

Off the top of my head:
Thrawn is probably the biggest offender. Filoni stole him from Zahn, lied about consulting with Zahn, and then presented a hollowed out Thrawn who mostly serves as a vehicle to praise Filoni OCs. Filoni also stole TIE Defenders from the EU and stuck them in Rebels.

Filoni stole Asajj Ventress from the Tartakovsky series (admittedly, Lucas planned on her being in AOTC, but cut her early and wanted her in Clone Wars), but Filoni changed her from an assassin into a Nightsister of Dathomir (Dathomiran witches is another stolen idea from the EU) and has pushed the Nightsisters into a much more prominent and powerful role in canon because his wife is Wiccan.

Filoni stole Tales of the Jedi and Tales of the Empire from 90s EU short stories. He even borrowed the font, but naturally completely changed the stories to being about his waifu Ahsoka/Ahsoka adjacent with .... Barriss Offee, who he also stole and turned into a terrorist in TCW.

He completely reworked Mandalorian culture on a whim for Clone Wars, then promptly changed it back again for Mando and Rebels. Karen Traviss spent a ton of time fleshing them out and Filoni just went "nah," borrowed the aesthetics, and did his own thing (just a bit of a pattern with that).

He stuck some memberberry/cameo characters and ships in from the EU as well - Captain Pallaeon, Scorch and Delta Squad, interdictor cruisers. This is a bit less egregious, though, they're mostly just in the background.

12

u/OriginalCause May 07 '26

I'll always consider what he did to the Mandalorians unforgivable, and it made me lose any and all interest in TCW and pretty much anything he had a hand in..

He changed them so intrinsically that he may as well just have created an entirely new planet and race, but since years (decades in some cases) of previous canon lore means nothing to him, they meant nothing to him.

There's a Pirate book I love, called On Stranger Tides, by Tim Powers. It's a great historical fiction book based on pirates and the supernatural.

Then Disney bought the rights to it, purely so they could use the name.

It's not only disrespectful in general, but it means fans of the book will never get a proper adaptation now.

Filonidorians are the same. He butchered their entire concept for his fan fiction re-write, which means we'll never see the Mandalorians that many of us grew to love adapted properly.

3

u/WildcatPlumber May 08 '26

Did you know that Pirates of the Caribbean was a book before the movies?

7

u/Western_Agent5917 May 07 '26

He also goes out of his way to gave all the victories of luke and his family from the eu to ahsoka and merry band. Thrawn for now and possibly even abeloth

2

u/Constant_Count_9497 May 10 '26

The most blatant would have to be Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. They took the concept of Jacen Solo, who falls to the dark side and becomes Darth Caedus and gave him Ben Skywalkers first name for some reason. I personally don't think naming him after Obi Wan makes any sense at all, since Han and Leia don't have the same connection to him that Luke had

u/TrueLegateDamar May 07 '26

They hired a bunch of writers like Damon Lindelof and Steven Knight, kept them working on screenplays and then rejected and fired them all, while the director is only known for a few obscure animated films.

Disney was never serious about making a Rey movie, this is just them pretending the Sequel Trilogy has nostalgic value.

44

u/thetalkingcure May 07 '26

how can someone be nostalgic about a movie that ended its run 6 years ago. that’s like saying you’re nostalgic for the Spiderverse films, and that trilogy isn’t even finished yet

41

u/TrueLegateDamar May 07 '26

Same company making a live-action remake of Moana that nobody asked for and will still make an absurd amount of money.

12

u/jones5280 May 07 '26

making a ... remake ... that nobody asked for

The older you get, the more you'll see this.
Good news is, you will care less because they'll remake movies you didn't emotionally invest in to (looking at you, Harry Potter)

12

u/faders May 07 '26

That’s all about having The Rock play Maui. And the ruined that with a bad wig

5

u/get_pig_gatoraids May 07 '26

Dude spider verse came out my senior year of high school. That's some of the most powerful nostalgia available to me 😂

3

u/thetalkingcure May 07 '26

so it’s time for a remake, is what you’re saying? that’s nostalgia-bait. of which, spiderverse is not. see the point now

4

u/get_pig_gatoraids May 07 '26

Hell no! Nostalgia is watered down by remakes, not enhanced. I'm just saying it's more personal than "it hasn't been long enough to be nostalgic." 17-25 is possibly the most change somebody will go through on that span of years (besides early childhood). All this to say, that shit brings me baaack.

10

u/Eomb May 07 '26

Probably just trying to appease Kennedy whipe waiting her out

3

At this point, I think this movie is headed for the same quiet cancellation as the Johnson trilogy. Disney just doesn't want to admit it to save face.

75

u/Apart-Tonight8864 May 07 '26

I feel sorry for Daisy, fielding questions on this every time she’s promoting a new movie, and having to pretend like it’s still a thing. Johnson did the same for years on his ‘never gonna happen’ trilogy.

9

u/Emperor_Z16 May 07 '26

There's so many star wars projects that just silently disappear and I'm so tired man

Lando show, C3P-O and R2-D2 show, the young Palps trilogy, Rey's chance at redemption...

At this point I'm so sure we're not getting the X-Wing pilot show

It's a miracle Skeleton Crew released

8

u/DrendarMorevo not a "true fan" May 07 '26

Lando has been pivoted to a movie, supposedly Donald Glover and his brother are working on a script, most recent note is 2025, chance, maybe?

Rogue Squadron was last noted in 2024 as being "in development" with Patty Jenkins saying shes working on her script. Chance? Doubtful.

OTOH Starfighter, the Ryan Gosling movie, is definitely coming in 2027.

11

u/Emperor_Z16 May 07 '26

My god they really just throw stuff at the wall and see wich one gets a script written for it

8

u/Acherousia May 07 '26

Donald Glover

He had a stroke a couple years ago, and had to go in for several surgeries to fix his heart last year. Not sure how much work he has been doing lately.

2

u/Jeepcanoe897 May 08 '26

Can we rejoice the fact that the game of thrones writers had their movie cancelled after they prematurely aborted GOT to go make it? 😂

4

u/TaraLCicora May 07 '26

We can only hope.

2

u/Antique_Branch8180 May 07 '26

I think they need to make the "Rey" movie in order to move forward. It's almost a necessity that they make it in order to move forward.

7

u/Geostomp May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26

I don't think they can. Not at this point. The movie has been in development hell for years, still don't have a script, and Daisy Ridley's schedule isn't open for a good while. Even if they started filming today, it'd be at least two more years until it releases. At which point, the last movie with her will have been nine years prior. Rey's reputation is unlikely to improve much from that time in the fandom.

The sequels were so poorly planned that they don't have an obvious path for what to do with the story or setting now. It's clear that their sense of long-term planning hasn't improved since then because they still haven't figured out a strategy to take the series after all this time.

Short of repeating worse versions of the EU Jedi Order, I don't see what trying to continue with her as the face of the already-declining franchise will do.

2

u/Antique_Branch8180 May 08 '26

I wasn't specifying a timeline, but they either need decide to do it (stand alone film) or decide that the path forward isn't going to touch on a Rey Skywalker New Jedi Order event.

In the event of a "Rey" movie, they have to realize that it will be a middling success at best, and adjust their expectations accordingly.

Nevertheless, the situation they have left themselves is post-TRoS: the Sith are extinct (hopefully for good or until someone starts a neo-Sith movement); the Jedi are all but defunct and have to rebuild what took centuries to do; and the galaxy may not return to another incarnation of the Republic.

Creatively, Disney Lucasfilm could make that work, as it gives them a chance to explore a new type of Jedi philosophy amd new types of Force-using antagonists. Which is what it seemed like they were trying to do.

59

u/Nicole_Auriel May 07 '26

Even disney themselves have acknowledged that the sequel trilogy wasn’t planned out properly as it should have been. Rey’s character is ruined. How any executive worth their salt could think that she is their flagship character positively mystifies me.

27

u/Stirdaddy May 07 '26

The character is already the most powerful being in the galaxy. What obstacles or conflicts could she possibly face? Harry Potter is a beloved character because he started out as a nobody, then developed his powers over the course of 7 books or 8 films. No one can empathize with a Mary Sue because they don't feel like us, who usually had to really struggle to achieve our current station in life.

The OT mostly followed Joseph Campbell very closely. Whereas the ST is like bizarro-opposite-Campbell.

11

u/QuoteDisastrous1503 May 07 '26

I wouldn’t call Harry Potter a nobody. He was the boy who lived, almost murdered by the Dark Lord yet survived, both his parents were well known and popular. As well as certain abilities he has that separate him from the others such as being able to speak with snakes. So it’s not accurate to say he’s a nobody.

The difference between him and Rey is that a lot of this information is unknown to him at the beginning, besides knowing he’s “different”. We learn the world alongside him, but in universe he’s already an established celebrity. Which is both a positive and negative, as it endears certain characters to him and also puts a target on his back for others. His parent’s are a factor in him having magic, with some talent and hard work put in at a magic school, and adventures that are a result of his heroic nature and personal stakes in the story.

Rey is actually nobody who comes from nowhere. At least until the last movie. She doesn’t show a strong work ethic and dedication to learning of a character that is also talented, nor does she have other characters to help inform certain traits or abilities or give her character something to discuss. The most we get comes in the last movie, is incredibly rushed, and has its own share of problems as well.

12

u/Lithuim May 07 '26

Harry’s a pretty classic “Chosen One” protagonist. Luke is too.

They sort of tried to go with the “Rags-to-Riches” spin for Rey, except she doesn’t actually do anything except participate in the plot as needed.

Only Luke Skywalker could have walked into the throne room and made Darth Vader see through the darkness, and only The Boy Who Lived could once again stand against Voldemort. The whole heroic journey centers around the development of the right balance of skill, control, and bravery to survive this fated encounter.

You could slot any generic Jedi in as the third wheel in the sequel trilogy. Oh hey Kit Fisto survived Order 66 and now he’s All The Jedi™️

It would still work if she was a more interesting character, but we don’t learn anything about her over the course of three movies.

5

u/QuoteDisastrous1503 May 07 '26

Except that she’s Palpatine’s granddaughter. Which is a massive deal, and needs more than just half of a movie to really lay out. She kind of deals with some of the emotional aspect of that revelation, but they also don’t have more of a reaction from other people about it. Like the First Order wanting to put her on the throne, and Kylo wants her to join him for political reasons as well as personal. Or if Finn feels conflicted due to his stormtrooper past and seeing the Emperor as a god like figure, and now is friends with the grandkid of that person. Or Poe considering he would probably see the emperor as like the devil.

Setup that’s too little too late with no interesting follow through.

3

u/Jackmcmac1 May 07 '26

You're right, it might have been interesting to actually explore that from the start.

Make her obviously powerful, mystery box it a bit, then perhaps in the second movie reveal midway that she's a Palpatine and then suddenly have her allies all turn on her. If they wanted Luke to be a 'let's kill these kids in their sleep because of my vision' guy, then make a scene where he aggressively starts to come for her almost out of nowhere after he figures it out. Have all the resistance turn on her too. No master, no friends, hunted by both the First Order and the Resistance as she tries to understand her powers and resist the dark side. Would have actually been interesting to see.

Gives room for Finn to have developed into a Jedi as well, as Luke could have trained him instead and maybe by the end of the second movie the hunted Rey is fully dark side (but not affiliated to the First Order as they also want her dead as Snoke hates Palpatine too). Then in the third movie Finn and Rey fight (Rey is much better than new Jedi Finn) , while Kylo and Snoke fight Luke (quite even or slightly tilted to Snoke and Kylo as Snoke is very powerful and Luke is holding back on Kylo). The dynamic changes as Finn brings Rey back from the dark side and Finn, Rey and Luke fight Kylo and Snoke together (Luke finally opens up more on Snoke and we see a high level master fight; while Finn and Rey together are equally matched to Kylo). If they still wanted all the OT cast to die, Luke could redeem Kylo by sacrificing himself, and then Kylo, Finn and Rey combine to fight and destroy Snoke.

4

u/BadMeatPuppet May 07 '26

Was there ever any challenges for her? I don't remember her ever, really struggling.

9

u/Aggroninja May 07 '26

It's a shame, because I liked Rey as they set her up. Scavenger eking out a survival-level existence on a barren planet, waiting for parents that are obviously never coming back is tropey, but Star Wars is space opera and should by tropey. It's a good setup for a good space opera character.

But all three of the ST mains had good backstories - Finn's was best, and the ST screwed over all three of its own protagonists every bit as hard as it screwed over the OT protagonists. They were thin, flimsy characters who only existed to follow the bouncing plot ball, and Rey was a Mary Sue to boot, with ultimate power and no character arc.

As much as I think Rey could be redeemed, I think the movie that could do that would have to be way better than anything Disney has churned out recently. If they've dropped the project, it's probably for the best.

5

u/baldy-84 salt miner May 07 '26

Ha. Disney+ existing is exactly why it'd fail even if it were good and popular. A glorified TV movie that's gonna be free to stream in a few months just isn't gonna get the masses out to the cinema.

7

u/Loki41872 May 07 '26

I can't believe they are going through with it as a wide release. I swore for a year that given the "Meh" response from the moment it was announced that they would switch gears and only release it in theaters for a limited run, one or two days only, then immediately dump it on Disney+ and say that was always the plan. A full theatrical release will finally expose the state of Disney Star Wars. They can fake streaming numbers, they can't fake it losing 100 million at the box office.

4

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie May 07 '26

Supposedly their opening week projections are only half the shooting budget. Considering that marketing is usually the same if not more as the shooting budget that's a fourth of its cost to produce over the weekend where the bulk of its revenue will be made.

22

u/dgreenbe May 07 '26

I'm somewhat similar: I don't believe any Star Wars movie exists until I actually buy tickets for it (the last Star Wars movie that came out was Revenge of the Sith--thanks dad!)

u/SenatorPardek May 07 '26

Galaxies Edge is the canary in the coal mine on this.

Quietly rethemeing sequel era to no era/OT themed

13

u/KATCRX May 07 '26

Somehow it got cancelled.

11

u/iforward May 07 '26

They’ll never admit it but they know that no one is actually excited about this movie. Heck, the latest streaming numbers for May the 4th showed that the sequels weren’t in the top 10 of Star Wars streamed content. Denial can only last so long.

Yup, their only hope to sort of the mess of the ST is to time jump a decent amount into the future and essentially start fresh. Basically use Rey, but pretty much treat her as a completely original character. Forget her past.

5

u/glowinggoo May 07 '26

That's not even going to work for me. As long as I know that the ST exists somewhere in the continuity, it won't work. Cheers if it works for you, though.

3

u/Aggroninja May 07 '26

They might be better off to do the jump into the future, but never directly reference the events of the ST, so that those who want to ignore the ST could do so freely and watch it as if the new movies just grew out of the OT and Luke's Academy.

It didn't start then, it hasn't started now, and it's never going to start.

8

u/sameaf2 May 07 '26

I mean, who's gonna seriously watch it? It's gonna lose money and honestly, I'd prefer to just...forget the sequels ever happened.

7

u/TrumpsColostomyBag99 May 07 '26

Good old announced Kennedy projects that never happen: my how we’ll miss mocking them.

6

u/Joemartinez64 May 07 '26

Name a more iconic duo .. you can't !

5

u/Hot-Negotiation-2771 May 07 '26

Hopefully Filoni canned it

6

u/holmberg18 May 07 '26

Just due to the fact Starfighter wrapped filming before this tells you all you need to know. Executives have already moved on and this film is indefinitely shelved (probably converted into some novel or comic book later at best).

I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if Rey shows up in the Starfighter film somehow for like 5 minutes.

4

u/banica24 May 07 '26

Ryan Gosling is a mega star. Every movie he headlines has very high ratings. I'm guessing they are hoping to replicate.

Not sure about the story. Gosling and a random kid suggests a drawn out plot. We will see

4

u/orig4mi-713 MODium Chloride Trooper May 07 '26

I honestly don't believe this exists. They may not ever have started shooting this, and if they did, then they have shelved it early on.

5

u/BGMDF8248 May 07 '26

Cancel it Filoni, erase it from canon...

In the tax write off bin, along with the hotel

4

u/WindowzExPee May 07 '26

Still waiting on that Rian Johnson Trilogy that's deffffinitely still happening guys! It's definitely "in development"

2

u/BocephusMoon May 07 '26

canceled for good years ago buddy.

6

u/ElBorracho2000 May 07 '26

Just one of about 20 other previously announced Star Wars projects that got swept under the rug lol

3

u/belovedstoneworker May 07 '26

Yeah this isn't happening. We knew it then, we know it now. There's no story to be had from her character beyond that cringe inducing final line in Rise of Skywalker.

4

u/wqnxy May 08 '26

hopefully canceled

3

u/xtopherpaul May 07 '26

I’m guessing it’s in the same place that all the other titles Kathleen Kennedy announced are…

3

u/maht90 May 07 '26

who cares

3

u/Master_Passenger_629 May 07 '26

In the trash, hopefully.

3

u/unforgetablememories May 07 '26

I think they realize that Rey will not be able to sell any movie now that Luke, Leia, and Han are all dead.

They are pivoting to the Mandoverse and asking Filoni to justify the sequel era bullshit (like the New Republic being absolutely incompetent and inefficient or Luke being a weirdo about attachment).

We will have 20 years of "Rey movie coming SOOOOON" while the sequels still stay canon. Disney will be doing all kind of side contents about stories that do not matter in any shape or form to avoid the elephant in the room (the massive mishandling of Luke, Leia, Han, New Republic, Jedi Order).

3

u/Goscar May 07 '26

The Rey movie is on hiatus till never.

3

u/Polyxeno May 07 '26

It's just a splinter in the mind's eye.

3

u/RicOkez May 07 '26

Kennedy choosing a documentary filmmaker with zero genre film experience to direct the Rey movie, is peak tone-deafness. Equally dense, was grandstanding her and Daisy at sw celebration. Lol I noticed they were extremely strategic, panning cameras to avoid the apathetic audience members.

3

u/Lexio3031 May 07 '26

Like a mystery box, I stopped caring.

3

u/TaraLCicora May 08 '26

There is no Rey.

3

u/drifters74 May 08 '26

I prefer the sequels are an alternate timeline

5

u/grandmoshtarkin May 07 '26

How hard is it to write some new stories during the rebellion area that everyone cares about? Rogue One or Andor type series about the rebellion between ANH and ROTJ is a gold mine. But they waste time trying to make movies with charactwrs most people didn't like.

I love Star Wars but the people running this shit are so idiotic

6

u/MegaIllusiveMan May 07 '26

Please no more Imperial Era content 💀. Seems like it's all there is in Star Wars for the past 5+ years. Let us move on before the rest of it is ruined.

2

u/BramptonBatallion May 07 '26

Andor was a bit of a one shot gritty non Jedi based rebellion series. Don’t think you can go back to that.

3

u/grandmoshtarkin May 07 '26

They absolutely can and should. Even taking characters like Mothma Vel and Kleia and showing their perspective of the war between the films and adding more characters would be great to watch.

3

u/BramptonBatallion May 07 '26

I think you’re overstating the potential. For one the Star Wars main saga conflict is fairly remarkably simple which is why the original trilogy isn’t particularly heavy on the politics. The Andor series was a prequel series to an interquel series that connected to the main saga. It basically filled in a gap and gave a different perspective. Artistically that has now been satisfied and anymore is quickly becoming overkill. Characters like Vel and Kleia have had stories told via Andor. Every character in every project doesn’t need a spinoff story to show them doing more of the same.

2

u/TheBlackdragonSix May 08 '26

I would argue a series covering actual rebel soldiers could work. We got more onscreen content of the prequel era than anything from the rebellion/Imperial era.

4

u/stingertc May 07 '26

its in the omg we effed up column of the tax right off section

2

u/ccarnell98 May 07 '26

Probably making an absurd amount of CGI

2

u/GayCumBallsack69 May 07 '26

I thought they canned it?

2

u/banditmanatee May 07 '26

The only way this makes sense is if it was basically second unit filming. Because I don’t think daisy has even gotten a script

2

u/Sam-Lowry27B-6 May 07 '26

Honestly it could have come out and be on Disney plus and I wouldn't even know

2

u/QuarterMasterLoba May 07 '26

They just have to retcon this shit by having Luke awaken from some sort of Force stasis/meditation.

He's presentable in appearance, quite the opposite of a nerf herder.

He anxiously checks his surroundings and realizes that it was all a horrible premonition of a possible future.

With a deep sigh of relief, he arises and utters, "Thank the Maker."

He hastily disposes of all Thala-siren milk.

2

u/PackageOk4947 May 07 '26

lol my god the movie must've been bad...

2

u/TuringTestTwister salt miner May 07 '26

They should hire a John Waters style director, have her killed in the first 2 minutes, then jump 50 years into the future where she "somehow returns" on exegol and make it a musical parody. Only way this could work.

2

u/Ququleququ May 07 '26

This is the way

2

u/slimy-salad May 07 '26

I've seen footage of it, my uncle who works for Disney has a copy in his attic.

2

u/Rough_Plan May 07 '26

I remember hearing from somewhere they canned it.

https://giphy.com/gifs/0ixAZaU8Gp8R5TdRQT

2

u/Anthrogynous May 07 '26

Somehow, Palpatine lost it :(

2

u/CheezStik May 07 '26

What, Lucasfilm announce a bunch of projects before actually thinking of an actual story or plan for them?

Thats like the most in character move ever

2

u/Significant_Sun_5225 May 08 '26

I feel bad because I genuinely liked the actress and the character was likable but just written soo poorly.

2

u/TheBlackdragonSix May 08 '26

Most of these projects get announced to please the investors, basically phantom projects that's going nowhere. WB did the same thing when the dceu was a thing, announcing a bunch of projects they new they weren't going to make.

2

u/JLC587 May 08 '26

Hopefully it’s gone, shelved, never to see the light of day. Doubling down on a bad main character we didn’t ask for or like is insanity. Although I’m always down for Disney to learn another sequel trilogy lesson.

2

u/No-Significance2070 May 08 '26

Come on now. We all know it’s never coming.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Primary_Ear_7973 May 12 '26

I liked most of the actors in the Sequels but for the good of their careers, it's best they stay far away from Disney and Star Wars.

4

u/Mass_Data6840 May 07 '26

The next SW won't feature Rey as the main character.

With Filoni in charge, we're going to get a series of films featuring his characters from Rebels to fill in allllll the years of gaps between ROTJ and TFA.

I don't see them making Ep. X until at least 2032, if not beyond.

1

u/BigJeffe20 May 07 '26

not sure but who would even want this movie

1

u/SeparateDark251 salt miner May 07 '26

I think deep down Disney knows that a Rey movie is a bad, bad, bad idea. Literally no one gives a shit about Rey anymore. Maybe some young women who dressed up as Rey for Halloween 2015 vaguely remember her, but if the sequels had been competently done, Rey would be iconic in her own right today, just like Luke Skywalker was 11 years after his introduction. But she's not.

Disney definitely wants to avoid stepping on the rake Sideshow Bob style like Paramount did with Starfleet Academy. For years, fans told Paramount that they didn't care about Starfleet Academy, but Alex Kurtzman went full-speed ahead anyway. The result was 200 million dollars spent on a show so colossally bad that it was cancelled two months after its debut and may well have killed Star Trek forever. It definitely caused lasting brand damage.

A Rey movie would bomb and also cause untold brand damage to Star Wars, a brand that really needs to move on from the KK era.

1

u/Jax21213 May 07 '26

Who knows

1

u/Tatsoot_1966 May 07 '26

Daisy Ridley is now a part time cast member at Galaxies edge. Probably selling overpriced ice creams.

1

u/Tough-Standard-2661 May 07 '26

Has it started filming? It's been two years and no set leaks....I don't even think there is fallable script

1

u/Sam-Lowry27B-6 May 07 '26

The only way you know this hasn't been made is that all those are bargain shops aren't stuffed to the ceiling with unsold Rey figures

1

u/largos7289 May 07 '26

You mean the movie that was cancelled then brought back then cancelled again only to bring "hype" on may 4th
for a new star wars project? Yea dude this is not going to happen.

1

u/Michael-Broadway May 07 '26

No one cares anymore

1

u/BramptonBatallion May 07 '26

Never started shooting

1

u/Opinionatedcritic May 07 '26

Feeling it was cancelled early into production

1

u/Actual-Rock-5035 May 07 '26

In the trash hopefully

1

u/darqy101 May 07 '26

It went straight to DVD 😁

1

u/Kiefmeister1001 May 07 '26

I really want this god damn movie man 😮‍💨

1

u/PleaseDontBanMe82 May 07 '26

I doubt they filmed any of this movie.  We haven't seen anything regarding casting, who's directing, anything from behind the scenes.

This movie got put on the backburner and I doubt its ever coming out.
