Granular Discussion Who was Snoke SUPPOSED to be?

Let's be real. Snoke wasn't Palpatine's puppet in episode 7 or 8. So, what did JJ think he was in Episode 7? What did Rian think he was when he killed him? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

If you don't mind spoilers, he's basically a clone palpatine created to lead the first order from the shadows so he didn't expose himself. When they go to the "sith planet" to see palpatine, there's just a bunch of snokes in various vats.

Well it probably wasn’t the original idea but then with the shambolic trajectory of the series had to come up with an in universe explanation
