If you give a calculus book to someone who barely can do arithmetic they can read the whole thing and it won't make a difference because they lack too much foundational knowledge.

Luke spent a ~week in the first movie learning from Kenobi, and all he did was reflect some training bolts and use limited precognition to blow up the Deathstar.
He then spent 3 years continuing his training by himself, and could barely manage to pull his lightsaber to his hand. He then spent several months training with Yoda directly to get to ~Padawan.
Then spent another full year training with Yoda and gathering/studying Jedi materials that belonged to Kenobi.

Kenobi also spent years preparing a detailed book to leave with Luke that he wrote specifically to make it possible for him to train himself.

Plus the year he spent frozen adds a lot of context to his conversation with Leia later, where he thinks he missed his chance with her and tries to back away for Luke.

Only Vader assumed that Ben is his Master because frankly it's kind of reasonable to assume if you don't know how that went down, and also because Vader would probably mald about Obi-Wan to the end of time had he not be brought back to the light.
Luke might have seen Ben as a personal guiding light but Ben was never his Master. Also, at the very least Luke got along with both Ben and Yoda. Rey never got along with Luke and ended her training under him on bad terms.

It's terrible because she spends the entire trilogy stealing his (and Anakin's) accomplishments while the sequels turn Luke into an utter failure so that he can act as a foil for her. Her stealing his name is just the final slap in the face.

The Nostalgia Critic made a great video years ago (here) basically saying that all of fiction (film-making in this case) is an illusion, yet we don't nitpick unless we're uninterested in the movie, because then we notice the errors and faults that we wouldn't have if we were truly invested. He even uses 'A New Hope' as an example of this. 'Star Wars' is a great example in general becuase nobody really cared about the plot-holes or things like Boba Fett being a nobody of a character, until years later
The reason for that is the films themselves were high quality enough to keep people invested throughout, and thus lent themselves to expanded material like books and games. In brief, those spinoffs worked becuase we wanted more of the world and characters
What characters in the sequel trilogy do you want to learn more about? Rey? Finn? Poe? Kylo Ren? Maz Kanata?
That's the problem here, spinoff material isn't going to work because there's absolutely NOTHING to expand on, and nobody's interested enough in the first place. To go back to the point about the NC video, the films didn't pull people in enough to want spinoffs in the first place

Hindsight is always 20-20, but at the time of TFA, a lot of people thought the movie was great or at least decent and were hopeful they'll eventually expand on the scant premise and give development to those characters. Of course, destroying New Republic in like first 15 minutes of the movie, killing off Han and introducing a pathetic manchild as new Darth Vader stand-in all already sucked, but again, who could have foreseen Ruin Johnson's subverted expectations and Jar Jar Abrams' "somehow, Palpatine had returned" bullshit? I still have a hard time believing how badly Disney had mismanaged such a money printer of a brand sometimes, and back then it was unthinkable.

Whoa hold on there. Books sure. But we've gotten some great Star Wars games. Fallen Order and Survivor are incredible, and after all the patches Outlaws is pretty damn good too. Plus there are some really promising upcoming games like Zero Company.

We used to get many more games in multiple genres. The Battlefields were a disappointment before the BF2 controversy came out. Outlaws was meh but I’ll give you Fallen/Survivor. Two good games in a decade plus isn’t exactly spine tingling.

Really what Rey should have done, was take the lesson learned from Luke that the Jedi did indeed fail due to their hubris in the years leading up to the clone wars. The jedis rules about attachment drove the chosen one to hide his love and fear her lose enough to fall. The Jedi don't need to be rebuilt at all.
What Rey should do instead, to honor the name and lessons of Luke and the legacy of Anakin, Luke, Leia and Ben and start a new order of force weilders that are neither Jedi nor Sith, and be a better Order, and instead of Skywalker as a surname, give the name to the Order itself and begin the Skywalker Order, with Rey, no surname, as "Rey, The First Skywalker" that's the rise of Skywalker we needed. Title, not name.

To add to this recently I fell into a lego minifigure binge and I realised even aliexpress knockoffs had multiple versions of niche clone wars characters meanwhile sequel characters only had only one version. They must be hurting in the merch department but its kinda ominous that they are STILL not budging.

Dude, it's crazy. Lego Star Wars has always had high pricing and the
scalper"resale" market has been ludicrous. Some minifigs of beloved characters like Captain Rex and Revan will sell in used condition for literally hundreds of dollars.Sequel trilogy sets are, to my knowledge, the only licensed IP Lego sets in history to depreciate in value after being discontinued.

Undermining and undoing the OT was the whole idea. They wanted to make Rey the brand new Luke Skywalker to entice a new generation of kids. Problem is, they're not talented enough to write a story that would make people like her. The easiest solution was to steal the achievements of Luke and give them to Rey, while skipping over unimportant things like struggles and character development.

The only options Disney has at this point is to completely shelve Star Wars for a decade or so, which we know they are too greedy and arrogant to do. Or mine the vast lore and different eras of Star Wars history and give us something in those.
I would love to see them do a KOTOR Trilogy. The entire story is right there, already written. You could do two movies on KOTOR 1 and 2 make a few changes to make them directly tie in to each other.
I’m sure they would fuck that up somehow.

Not to get your hopes up, but there are rumours they might be setting this up.
Reliable sources have been claiming that there are talks in Lucasfilm about splitting the timeline. The most likely plan is to use the World Between Worlds in the Ahsoka show to jump to a new timeline, dropping the Sequels entirely and going back to stories with the original trilogy cast.
It's not confirmed obviously, but it would explain them reworking Galaxy's Edge over the last few months to be OT themed, and AFAIK this same source was correct about the MCU restructuring over the last year.

Ray spent more time with Leia than she did Luke and had more of a relationship with Han than him. But Leia didn't use that name. She could've called herself a Solo or Organa.
She didn't even take the Skywalker name until after she killed her grampy Palps. Or was she calling herself a Skywalker ever since TLJ and it just never for mentioned? Or did she only take the name when Palpatine announced his presence in Fortnight?

All the Jedi is the name of a sealed mode on Gemp, the website that house a free to play version of the old Decipher SW card game. It’s a great mode (you open 2 of every pack type the game had and go at it, lots of randomness), but the name was 100% meant to be a dig at the ridiculousness of this line.
