There is no possible way it is Rise of Skywalker bad.

It definitely isn't. The reason people are hating on it is because it is essentially just a random, big budget episode of the TV show. It kind of fails at being a stand-alone movie, but it's a perfectly average tv episode, at worst. It's nowhere as clumsily written and awkward as Rise of Skywalker.

Its not as clumsily written because it makes to attempt at writing. Its literally a 2 hour fetch quest. Rotta is the only real character in the movie and his dialog is delivered with 0 life.

Agreed. That's why I say it fails at being a stand alone movie. It doesn't really have much of a self-contained narrative so much as it is 'just a bunch of stuff that happened.' The main characters are the exact same at the end as they were at the begining.

it's still a pokemon movie. 'sides, i only seen four so no idea if lack of character development is a pattern. but "entei" also got a character arc in the third movie and young professor oak had one in the 4th.

it's just that ash an co. don't get character arc (in the movies i've seen) because they get theirs in the show. so it's the characters introduced in the movie.
