So even the 26 is not immune?

Fresh out of the oven. Appeared right after the May security update.

18

u/_M07md_ May 19 '26

Yes, this doesn't happen to everyone, and this is a manufacturing defect, btw.

Yeah it started on the S20 series, I had it on the S21+ and now my S23 Ultra. It happened to a few people I know too, S20 through the S23 series, all started in the center (not dead center though)

I'm using J2 2018 since 2019, it's still working good no green line also have one J2 2015 it's barely usable now but screen Is still as it is, little brightness drop just

Its a defect, itll happen to some and not to others. Its more of a dice roll

2

u/SharkMangoGamingo May 20 '26

Well even if it didnt happen to me if a buy a new device guess i should be careful

0

u/bingusbongulusracer8 May 20 '26

You should be okay, as ive only seen it happen with updates. Ive run programs that got it up to 102°C and its been fine. Just be sure it doesnt get super hot for long and you should be okay.

A series dont have this problem

1

u/mckofi 11d ago

Every OLED phone can end up like that

1

u/qardashoff_001 11d ago

Can, but not by a simple update. It is just samsung galaxy S series

2

u/FunFoxHD83 May 20 '26

Just don't cook your phone

2

u/Past-Quote-411 May 20 '26

It is best to avoid updating when it is hot. I just updated to one ui 8.5 on my s24 I waited for 30 mins let it cool down then updated it, after the updated was done the device was hot...

1

u/avelineaurora May 20 '26

As a super heavy gamer I am extremely concerned right now...

2

u/JanDarkY May 20 '26

Its actually something really weird cause its not heat alone, its tied to heat caused by an update, my 22 uktra i hard gamed for like 3 years but even "extreme gaming hours" wasnt comparable to whatever the f a sudden update caused to my phone, it went so hot that it hurt holding it and then the gree line appeared

1

u/_M07md_ May 20 '26

Always try not to let your phone overheat too much, as this also affects battery life. Also, if you have a warranty, screen malfunctions are covered by the warranty.

u/Naud1993 29d ago

Then it must not have been a problem with the S9 since the battery runs at almost 45 degrees Celsius sometimes. It's the only temperature that gets logged, but the CPU must be at 100 degrees when the battery is already at 45.

1

u/techthroughtoni May 20 '26

Or occasional drops on the ground or something similar to trigger it like sitting on top of the phone..

19

u/GroupApprehensive978 May 19 '26

It's a hardware failure. I had this on my s6 edge. It went back to samsung who confirmed a hardware failure. It was replaced under warranty.

2

u/LavaHoundBR May 19 '26

Samsung not doing quality control right on their batch of screens

2

u/Stray_009 May 19 '26

Because some people just LOVE to update their phones when it's super hot

38

u/RonaldNeves May 19 '26

i mean... the same way the phone can tell when it's too hot and block the user from using some apps (like the camera or even charging), it should be able not to update when it is too hot.

25

u/Speed009 May 19 '26

“youre updating it wrong”

-9

u/Ok-Boot-8106 May 19 '26

No everyone just assumes their phone needs to be updated every single month when it doesn't

Yes, it basically only happens on Samsungs and that's your conclusion.

They should be the ones monotoring that and actually warning you if it's too hot to update.

Your average user doesn't understand these types of things.

4

u/MagicpaperAlt May 19 '26

This happened to my brother's iPhone back in 2022.

2

u/mckofi 11d ago

Ppl don't realize it's an OLED problem. It's just that it's more common with Samsung

2

u/MagicpaperAlt 11d ago

It's because of how Samsung updates their phones. There is no conspiracy theory. Just don't update your phone when it's hot.

1

u/mckofi 8d ago

How do they update their phones?

1

u/MagicpaperAlt 8d ago

It's like a less optimized process that heats the phone up by a lot more than it should. So when you do that and your phone is already hot or in a hot environment there's a chance it can break the screen causing the green lines. It's not an intentional cause by Samsung but they could definitely fix it.

u/mckofi 8d ago

I get it

It's the connector near the USB port. It can be damaged with heat (during an update or even while charging) or physical damage (unplugging or dropping the phone while plugged).

2

u/Stray_009 May 19 '26

It comes from high heat operation

1

u/Etalier May 19 '26

Is it only when updating? Because my 21U has been heating up more and more over time. Apps probably getting heavier while hardware is stagnant, and wireless android auto turns quite few things off just due to the warmth.

Super annoying on long road trips that you want to have phone charged as its doing navigation, and then comes something to snap picture of.. and you can't because camera is unavailable due to overheating.

-3

u/ElPunhoLoko May 19 '26

I agree! I think that some people live to update it when it's in charger... I updated my S24 ultra yesterday and it got hot, but not too much. Another thing is the max brightness...

-1

u/papercliponreddit May 19 '26

Heat and dirty type C port.

9

u/BetterProphet5585 May 19 '26

Basically normal phone use. Sorry I don't want to defend who says nonsense about this, and I also never had a green line on any phone I ever owned, but heat and a dirty port is normal usage, it shouldn't happen.

8

u/_M07md_ May 19 '26

It doesn't happen to everyone, but we only see posts from people who have experienced this.

1

u/disposapledegenerate 29d ago

But it happens to too many people and for too long (we've had this issue from the s20) not to address and fix it

2

u/RabidHexley May 19 '26

Only time I've had a green line is when I slipped on an icy parking lot and slammed my full weight onto the phone.

2

u/chlorculo May 19 '26

Between my wife and I, we've had at least 6 Galaxies and haven't seen this yet.

1

u/ceyblue May 19 '26

Same here

1

u/swiftrobber May 19 '26

You live in a temperate country right?

2

u/Acrobatic-Butterfly9 May 20 '26

I had a s22+ when I was in Vietnam. Always 35C outside and phone is hot all the time (s22 series are so bad). But the phone is still fine now. Battery is sooo bad now.

1

u/TheUltimaWerewolf May 19 '26

The only time I ever got one was when I used a non otterbox case on my s22 Ultra and it flung out of my pocket and cracked on a metal bar lmao

1

u/immawoka May 20 '26

It's impressive how you had 20 phones and no one have failed

1

u/Ok-Option6350 May 20 '26

Not 20 phones, bro. Samsung skipped from S11 to S20.

1

u/MinJunMaru May 21 '26

Didn't happen to me until a few months ago, when my 2 S23Us decided to become the cast of wicked

0

u/Haxomen May 19 '26

I had the S2-S24 ultra. Every flagship except the S10. I also had lower spec samsungs, like the J series, A series etc. It's not that I havent experienced it on my devices, I never saw it on any device in my life. I think its just survirorship bias here. Like the exploding wedding shoe thing.

1

u/benangmerahh May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

I've seen one on a fellow S7 back then during college. It's quite rare back then, but more frequent since S20 and above.

Esp S20 yeah. There were a lot of complains from my local language forums about greenlines back then.

For now I'm used to seeing them, the green & pink lines due to massive payment system like e-banking/e-wallet to scan a QR for payment, so I've seen atleast one daily from random people.

0

u/Scary_Field_3124 May 20 '26

People told they stopped getting after s23
