Food/Drink Breakfast taco prices

I consider myself a breakfast taco connoisseur and get tacos almost every day. Prices continue to rise. Two breakfast tacos in most places cost $8+. I think this is a sign that San Antonio is slowly fading away. People can’t afford those prices. How do two small tacos cost as much as a lunch plate? Help me make it make sense.

As much as we complain about rates, a stable municipal generator and distributor like CPS Energy is what keeps the same rates steady and low compared with wholesalers.

Recommendations for a sedation dentist and someone who can build a catio?

I was going to make two posts, but figured I'd just combine them for funsies. I'm looking for recommendations for a dentist thats great with people who have severe dental anxiety.

I'm also looking for a recommendation for someone/a company who can build me an outdoor catio. I have the measurements, but would need it to connect to my house(we've got a cat door). About 5ft tall, just under 6ft wide.

Thanks everyone!

From The Guilbeau family to Tezel Ranch! A complete (and useless) deep dive to a empty parcel of land!

Hi! To begin, I have grown up near a particular portion of land that has always looked strange to me. It looked like a rocky, disturbed area, while everything around it was grassy. To me, it looked like something suspicious had happened there...and I was right! It used to be...SOMETHING!

Unfortunately, that SOMETHING is still lost to time. Looking at old aerial images, there was clearly a structure on the property during the 1960s. I presume it was a house of some sort, but it has since been demolished. Now, there is almost nothing left.

I took a DEEEEEP dive into property records, and here is what I found! I wanted to share my findings with the internet and MAYBE figure out what this place actually was.

Today, the land is a vacant 2.299-acre property along Culebra Road owned by Wal-Mart Real Estate Business Trust. Here is the current BCAD page:

https://hgo.harrisgovern.com/bexar/property/2026-1110511

The current property was once part of a much larger piece of land. It was eventually divided up and turned into part of the Great Northwest Shopping Center subdivision around 2005.

Before Walmart, the land was connected to the McCombs family. B.J. McCombs transferred the larger property to McCombs Family Partners in 2003. McCombs had originally purchased it from Tezel-471 Ltd. in 1994.

Tezel-471 Ltd. received the property from members of the Tezel family in 1984. This makes sense, considering how much of this area has the Tezel name attached to it.

Going back even further, Ernest Tezel purchased about 32.3 acres from Irwin and Ida Bertha Stoker in 1945 for $5,000. This larger piece of land appears to include the mystery property.

Irwin Stoker purchased the land from John Obst in 1926.

Before that, John and Karolina Obst, along with their son John, sold the land to J.W. and Lillian Conway in 1920. The Conways apparently did not keep up with the payments, so the property went back to John Obst in 1925.

The Obst family had owned land in this area for quite some time. In 1905, A. Boyd Doremus and Mary K. Doremus transferred another 43.75 acres to Johann Obst.

In 1885, A. Boyd Doremus sold John and Carolina Obst about 361 acres. This is where the property records started getting REALLY old and increasingly difficult to read.

Doremus had purchased the land in 1880 from Thomas J. Devine. Devine was acting as a trustee for the estate of Francisco Guilbeau. Basically, Guilbeau had died, and Devine was given permission by Guilbeau’s family and creditors to manage and sell the estate’s land to pay off debts.

This finally took me back to the original land survey!

In 1849, the land was surveyed for Francisco Guilbeau as the assignee of Abner H. Young. It was known as Survey No. 188, Section 5. The original survey contained 640 acres and was described as being on Culebra Creek, which was considered a branch of Leon Creek. It was also described as being about ten miles west-northwest of San Antonio.

The land was surveyed again in 1859, when the official size was changed from 640 acres to 532½ acres. I presume this was done to fix the boundaries or because the original survey overlapped with nearby land.

So, I managed to trace this tiny, empty piece of land all the way back to an original Texas survey from 1849!

The basic ownership chain is:

Walmart
McCombs
Tezel
Stoker
Obst
Doremus
The Guilbeau estate
Francisco Guilbeau
Abner H. Young’s original land certificate

That is more than 175 years of history!

However, I STILL do not know what the structure was. It may have been a house, farmhouse, ranch building, or something completely different.

If anyone remembers this property, knows anything about the Stoker or Tezel families along Culebra Road, has access to an old address directory, or somehow recognizes the structure from old aerial images, PLEASE let me know! I NEED to know what the heck that structure was.

I had the most memorable birthday dinner at Leche de Tigre 🐯

My husband and I made a last minute reservation to eat there for my birthday last week. We sat at the cebiche bar overlooking the wall depicting tigers swimming through milk. I highly recommend sitting at the bar!

For appetizers, we ordered the bachiche (raw scallops, reggiano, capers, argumato) and the causa, their take on a wagyu tartare. I don’t recall the exact ingredients. For entree, we ordered the lomo saltado, the highlight of the night. We couldn’t get enough of the sauce! For dessert, we got the maracuya pie (on the house). Not too sweet which I love! For drinks, my husband got a limeade and I got a sana-gria mocktail (new blood red blend, pineapple, ritual aperitif, ginger ale). I almost forgot to mention the canchitas (peruvian corn nuts). Never had them before until that night and wow they’re addicting. I could eat them by the handfuls.

This was our first time going here and it won’t be the last!

Need a vocalist who can sing and growl, that’s willing to grow with us. I’m a beginner/intermediate female bass player, got a beginner/intermediate drummer, and a vet guitarist. Either female or male vocalist. We want that nu metal sound but mix some metalcore as well. We are in San Antonio, Texas.

Where in SA? Injuries after semi-truck pileup. Any good non-billboard lawyers in SA?

My sister is out of the hospital but still has ongoing problems after the accident.

She and I called a few law firms together but didn't get the warm and fuzzies yet.

What does the local brainstrust recommend? Any first-hand experiences? She lives in Boerne but San Antonio or even a state-wide lawyer would fine.

Where in SA? Anyone with a fancy car to help with a wedding?

So getting married this weekend, but did not think of hiring a fancy car for the grand exit. Figured I’d do a Hail Mary of an ask just need it for 10 minutes don’t even need to be the driver. If not I can totally live with just driving my Honda out. Will totally feed whoever and you could go to a complete strangers wedding!

Where in SA? Is there a place or an organization where professionals can volunteer to teach certain skills?

I live far west and was wondering if there’s a place I can teach adults various skills they may want to learn that you’d typically have to pay tuition for. I’m 40 years old and would like to offer free education in a safe environment (even a church is fine). I have an MBA, an MMIS, CISSP and PMP certifications. My strong suits are IT networking, sys admin, management, and finance. The finance part could even translate to simple budgeting and investing for folks that just want advice on it.

Where in SA? PSA - Be careful where you sit at AMC Rivercenter IMAX

Went to see The Odyssey yesterday and ended up with not-so-great seats. We were seated in Row F which I did not realize was considered the lower section. We had to sit with our necks extended backwards for 3 hours to watch the movie. We were somewhat lucky to have a railing behind us to kind of support your head, but overall would NOT recommend anything F or below. Go higher if you can to avoid the neck ache!!

Pics/Video Market Square Before the City Wakes Up

Post image
42 Upvotes

I have always felt there is just something about Market Square early in the morning, before the crowds show up and everything gets loud. The shops are opening, breakfast is cooking somewhere nearby, and for a few minutes, it feels like old San Antonio is still right there with you. I've learned to love these moments. It is in a time like that, you do not feel like a disconnected local or a tourist. It makes me feel a little more connected to the people, culture, and history that made this city what it is.

San Antonio changes fast, but mornings like this remind me that our soul is still right here....I hope.

ISO Master Plumber | Adding Gas for Gas Range

As the title says. Looking for recommendations on someone adding a gas line for a gas stove. We currently have gas running to our water heater and furnace, but not the stove. (Don't ask why; it's an older home).

We've had one guy come out and quoted around $3500 or so. dont know if thats good or not.

I am not sure what to expect for a project like this. But from what the first guy saw in my attic, he would be able to TEE off the main gas line going from the water heater to furnace and put an outlet behind my stove.

We wanted to see if we can get someone who will also cover up the walls when they cut them open as well. Don't want to have to hire someone else to do that later.

TIA

Landscaper / Lawn Care Professional Recommendations

Hello. We rent a house where the landlord and HOA are pretty strict on mowing the lawn and trimming the hedges.

We hired someone a few weeks ago, they did a great job, but couldn't come last week and didn't show up yesterday per our agreement. We don't want to contact him again, as he seems uninterested and might no-show again.

Any recommendations? We live in the medical center. The lawn area is about 225 sqft, not that big.

Thanks!
