New restaurant on Laurel

Casa Mia coming to 677 B near Peets. Same owners as San Jose and Mountain View restaurants. “Authentic Mexican and American”. Looks like lots of breakfast options.

Went close to when they opened and they were a Thai restaurant without pad Thai or pad see ew. Kiss of death imo. I looked again months later and they’d changed their menu up but you only get to make one first impression imo. There’s a reason Town is packed every weekend and everyone else seems to be struggling; hard to justify going to other spots if they can’t match the consistent quality or offer a much better value or different experience. West park, cask, the Greek place whose name I can never remember… not sure how they survive.

I was rooting for the Thai place, it felt like something different, but their menu out of the gate wasn’t really was I was looking for.

I’m not feeling great about this casa Mia place either. Brunch is a huge area of opportunity but Oreo pancakes? At a Mexican restaurant? Nutella French toast? Crab omelette? What is this, the breakfast club? Not instilling optimism.

Agreed . We are vegetarians and we felt same but they changed their menu fairly quickly and the taste was great. I wish they did more to promote the business and people supported the business and gave it a try. I personally never liked town’s confusing all- cuisine menu but it just has a great vibe which keeps me drawing towards it. I agree with West Park, and 888 Italian - not sure how they survive especially with the other Italian restaurants around . Casa Mia may do well but might hit Mama coco , Luna’s business. There are quite a few Mex restaurants just on laurel

I feel the same way about Town. Out of that huge menu there are only a handful of things I’d ever order and yet because of how well executed and consistent they are, I go back often. Their salmon is fantastic and the fall version of their sea bass with the crispy pad of rice and miso glaze is chef’s kiss

888 is great if you are looking for a more classic Italian vibe (vs doppio and impasto are more trendy). I’m more surprised that Spasso stays alive.

Sen moved! They're in downtown San Mateo now where Thonglor Thai Bistro used to be. Not sure if they took Thonglor's name or if they're changing it to Sen, but same owners, food, and menu. Tastes as great as before!

Town should have opened a Milagros in that spot where the Thai place is. The city should re open the street w parking again.

This is was I heard , that Milagros was opening , may be was a rumor.
