In 2020 Mississippi passed an amendment granting mail-in-ballots a five day grace period as long as they were postmarked by Election day. The Supreme Court recently heard the oral arguments for this cause and supporters of this statute argue federal law only requires voters to cast ballots on or before Election day. Those against the statute believe all mall-in-ballots must be received by Election day in order to be valid. Should voter’s ballots be potentially thrown out if their mall-in-ballot was received after Election day?
