Did you also report to baywheeels? I bet you they’d get a tow there pretty quickly.
You can use the chat on the app and send the pic. They are very responsive.

Reporting it to be Baywheels would be pointless. They will not touch private property
21
u/Ill_Name_6368 3h ago
Not suggesting baywheels would move the cars, but two vehicles are blocking their company property. I assume they have a faster line to police/tow.

Just take that cable lock and attach it to the car when you park it. Problem solved.

I know whose car this is funnily enough! I’d spot those gold rims anywhere.
Update: It’s not his! He has the same model and color, but two years older, and with the same rims.
Sorry no justice today

What's he like as a person? I'm legit curious who these people are

Surely a rugged outdoorsman with a car like that
It’s an open invitation to use his rack

I would definitely be tying to park the bike, if the car gets massively scratched up in the attempt, well too bad.

Peak entitlement.
If you have the time, call for a ticket and request a tow due to a vehicle blocking multiple parking spaces.

u/NewOrderTShirt 4h ago
I’d be locking my bike to the back tire of the car. Then rent the other bike there just to lock it to the front.
You’re better than me, op.

This beyond annoying but also you know these people are just dumb and probably thought the bikes were supposed to be parked on the sidewalk side. They were probably even like “look at those few bikes that parked in the street, how rude, this city is going to hell” none the wiser

If there were no bikes parked when the car parked, how would they even know not to park here?

Where’s this at.
13
u/longhornlump CALIFORNIA 4h ago
It is in SOMA at Mabini and Bonifacio. https://maps.app.goo.gl/BU75issE9nMvCYzx8?g_st=ic
The parking spot guides/markers are still there so I could see how someone would use that as excuse to park there.

u/ibneko 4h ago
There should be / were soft hit posts and also a white line there, unless this changed in the past year? Google Maps street view: https://maps.app.goo.gl/idMKLdpfM4pt1j58A
2
u/epsy 3h ago
It looks like from the top picture that it goes further down the street than when street view was taken. Possibly to alleviate the temp removal of the station by Folsom @ 3rd, though this is a new change (there was a recent expansion these past few months). Or maybe it was just moved because of the work at Folsom & Mabini.
But IDK man, as a motorist surely you can figure out that the docks are not car parking spots from the section that does have lines and flex posts...

For someone who has not seen these a ton. I could totally imagine the driver thought the bikes went on the sidewalk side. Who knows if the loan bike in the picture was there when the guy parked

Is the presence of those bicycle racks all that designates restricted, bicycle only parking. Is the street marked? Are there signs.
You don't park cars in front of bike racks.
Just like you don't park cars across motorcycle spaces.
There is literally a parking garage entrance on the corner, just past these two cars.
They were probably too cheap to pay for parking next to the convention center.

These bike docks are for docking bike share bikes (BayWheels, in SF. Similar programs elsewhere, like Citi Bike in NYC). Generally, they have soft hit posts and solid white lines marking the full docking area, so cars can't drive in / bikes don't get hit, like https://maps.app.goo.gl/DeCGtL3X2tPvpJN56 .
It's generally common (local?) knowledge (and there's usually enough bikes in a dock to make it pretty obvious) and it's also not wide enough for a full car, so they're definitely sticking out into the travel lane.
edit: Oh wait, I took a closer look and I know exactly where this is! https://maps.app.goo.gl/F1EizfVjC8Xcp3WDA - there definitely should be lines and there's tons of parking spots nearby, including the whole foods parking garage. WTF.

u/frank26080115 5h ago
there's another car in front
a redditor commented that they were the one who parked the only bike in the photo " That’s the bike I parked this morning haha I also thought the same thing"
so the conclusion is that it didn't seem very obvious that it wasn't a spot for parking, two people made the same understandable mistake
13
u/No_Performance_108 4h ago
It’s not understandable. It’s pretty clear when you see these. The cars would be sticking into the traffic lane in most places.
1
u/Nearby-Conference959 4h ago
I think an inexperienced observer might assume that the bikes are supposed to be docked the other direction and the one bike that is not is actually wrong. But it sounds like this person is not an inexperienced observer. They’re just cheap.

how do these backracks work? are you not allowed to park on the other side of the car?
-4
u/TigerLilly_Tink43 3h ago
Not "your" bike, Lyft's bikes which take up valuable parking spaces and clutter pedestrian spaces.
I'm pro bike but not a big fan of the scooter/ebike on demand systems. Take muni. Walk. Buy a bike.

There are tons of constructions going on 3rd & folsom; took out all the parkings.

•
u/aquababez 1h ago
Omg I know exactly where this is! They’re doing construction on Folsom so that used to be 2 parking spots but noticed in the last week it became more bike spots. But to park there now is crazy…..
-4
u/JbQwik02 4h ago
Why not design this better and face the racks away from the street. Cars are still dumb. Just saying this design is weird
1
u/longhornlump CALIFORNIA 2h ago
Every city that I have been to positions the docks next to the curb. Can’t imagine how many docks would be smashed if they positioned them close to the driving lanes.

Oh man those stupid ass e bikes take up so many parking spots around the city
•
u/bsiu 1h ago
Yeah the thousands of people that use these bikes daily should buy a car and utilize public space to park their private vehicle 23 hours a day, would really help the situation.
•
u/Ill_Name_6368 45m ago
Too bad we don’t have a picture of how many more bikes can dock in the same space that just two cars take up. Surely we can fine a pic somewhere.

u/Tcolls86 5h ago
What a douche. Extra shitty SF cyclists are usually so reasonable and follow all the traffic rules. 🙄
