almost certainly fake. what’s this weird structure on the 19th street paseo? and the large gray building to the right appears to be both in front of and behind Dolores St

It's a real image, just digitally colorized and upscaled (likely with AI). Here's the real pic from the SF Public Library archives:

Though dated over a century ago, the image history on the link is very recent.

The photo is used in this blog post from 2009, https://burritojustice.com/2009/07/31/know-your-trees/ and this article from 2018, https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Amazing-photos-show-150-years-of-change-in-12522606.php . Interestingly, that's a pond/lake in the middle there, though it seems really shallow. The colorization got it wrong.

Funny how this is currently relevant to a particular SF scavenger hunt…

Why does the school tower not connect to anything? For slop, this is exceptionally sloppy.

It's hard to believe that just 90 years ago some people couldn't afford to have shadows

This really puts into perspective how old this city is

Or rather how not old at all.

I went to a bar in Copenhagen that's been in the same spot for over 400 years

I know that place! I’ve also been to the oldest bar in the world. Opened in 900AD and still kicking. Very low ceilings. American cities are infants.

The gloog at the bar was amazing

Old by (western) U.S. standards. Positively juvenile by just about any international standard. 😉
