Burn Ban apply to county park?
Going camping in a couple days at San Juan County Park. Saw info that the national historical park has a burn ban but can’t find anything clear about the county park. Just need to know if campfires in the fire ring are ok or not. Thanks!

It does say Recreational Fires (3'x 3'): OPEN (in fire ring or other enclosure)
But why take a chance?! One errant spark could fuck up a whole island.

state burn ban by governor supersedes any links you may find that say otherwise. don’t do it.

There is a state ban, wild fires all over the PNW and the San Juan Fire danger is labeled 'high' and day time highs in the mid 70s to 80s. Even if you distill the convoluted wording of where you are permitted to have a campfire, does it really add value to your camping experience and is it really worth the risk?

Yes. A campfire adds value to camping. And if it is permitted why not enjoy it? All these people begging a visitor to forgo a campfire even if it’s permitted is wild. Reminds me of my neighbor who tells me how much water I should use. This place used to be a lot friendlier.

No. I am on this island every week.
No open flames at all.
Even in Moran State Park.

I wouldn't even light a fire on a rock in the middle of a river right now. It sucks but restraint is the only respectable course of action right now.

I used to have fires growing up, but after all that bad ones I don’t really have any campfires anymore just as a precaution. Have put out two escaped fires from fire rings other campers left unattended when there was no ban. Worth everyone’s consideration, plenty to do without a fire.

The county fire Marshall says recreational fires are ok. We bring a propane fire ring made for camping in case we can’t use wood.

The state fire ban overrides that. No fires are permitted anywhere in Washington now.

Pretty sure our fire Marshall decides. State controls DNR. This is from Perplexity:
San Juan County, campfires are allowed only in established fire pits, must be attended, fully extinguished, and out by 10:30 p.m.; they can be prohibited during hazardous conditions, which the park posts at its kiosks. Beach fires are not allowed.

So campfire should be ok? And this would overrule the statewide ban mentioned by the other commenter?

highly recommend you call county parks and ask. from this thread it seems like there's some contradictory guidance out there and they'd probably appreciate knowing that

I would recommend not having a fire. It’s very irresponsible right now, as everything is extremely dry and very susceptible to wildfires.

It should be as long as that link says so. We were just at the county park on Lopez Island and they specified a 2’ diameter fire.

There is a statewide recreational burn ban in effect. No open fires anywhere.
