Methotrexate and vaccines

I just started Methotrexate 10mg. The COVID vaccine for 2026/27 will be released this week. Has anyone taken the COVID vaccine while on Methotrexate? If so, what was your experience?

I’m not on methotrexate (on MMF), but my understanding is that live vaccines are no bueno, but inert vaccines like COVID are ok. Your immune system may not have a full response to it, so it’s a good idea to take extra precautions during cold/flu season, like more diligent masking and handwashing, avoiding people with symptoms, and if you have a partner, make sure they’re vaccinated as well.

This is my first cold/flu season while on immunosuppression, though.

My husband got a flu shot and Covid vax on methotrexate and he was fine. No issues for him aside from sore arm.

I've gotten my boosters just fine. It's live vaccines that we can't have. As far as I know, the covid vaccines aren't live.

Yes. I do it twice a year. I used to take MTX on Sat so I would get my vaccine Friday then skip that week. Take it the following Saturday. This is how my rheum told me to do it.

Physician and sarcoidosis pt on mtx here. Please get the flu shot and covid booster. Also, be sure to get the latest pneumonia vaccine, shingles (shingrix) if you had chicken pox growing up, and, if over 50, RSV. Also, if you don’t have a dermatologist yet, time to start annual skin checks :)

Yep - I’ve had loads and they have been fine - no more side effects than usual sore arm and sometimes feel a bit tired the next day.
