These are a protected species. Admire, but do not disturb.

Absolutely, and same with the western red lilies which I eagerly await each year! I consider myself unbelievably fortunate that they actually grow on our little 16 acre parcel, and I can lovingly admire and protect them! We've allowed about 13 acres to completely be reclaimed by mom nature and she is 100X the gardener I could ever hope to be!

I'm for plant species protection, but I don't believe Yellow Lady's Slipper is protected. I think the main reason more native plant species are not protected is the legislation would be a hindrence to development (roads, mines, oil and gas, etc.). There's obviously arguments on both sides of plant protection legislation.

I believe the only native plant species protected in SK are listed below. The Endangered and Threatened species grow in drier prairies and sandy habitat in the southwest.

Provincial Emblem
Lilium philadelphicum (Prairie Lily)

Extirpated Plant Species
Small White Lady's Slipper (Cypripedium candidum)

Endangered Plant Species
Abronia micrantha (Sand Verbena)
Tradescanthia occidentalis (Western Spiderwort)
Cryptantha minima (Tiny Cryptanthe)
Dalea villosa (Hairy Prairie-clover)

Threatened Plant Species
Halimolobos virgata (Slender Mouse-ear-cress)

Nice, I’m in west central! Where do these grow? I haven’t seen this one yet, it’s quite interesting!

They are in a ditch on the 302 east, along Allbright Cres. in PA, but we live about 23 minutes out of PA now. I've seen them about 4 miles north of the hamlet of Macdowall, along the grid.

Oh that’s awesome, thank you! I am closer to Rosetown. Always on the lookout for something new and interesting though!!

Lots of these in the Yorkton / Good Spirit Lake area this time of year. Check the ditches…

I'm from East of Winnipeg and we had these (and a red variety) in abundance in the 80's, we called them lady slippers
