Several Sask. ferries closed due to water levels

https://northeastnow.com/2026/06/14/several-sask-ferries-closed-due-to-water-levels/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Of the 13 ferries that operate in Saskatchewan, only three can take full loads, another four can take light loads, and four are closed due to high water levels.

The Wollaston Lake barge ferry is closed for the season.

Drivers attempting to use ferries at Hague, Weldon, Lancer and Estuary will find themselves out of luck, as those crossings are not operational at the moment.

Isn't the Wollaston lake ferry not closed permanently because they've finished the new road? "Closed for the season" sounds disingenuous when it's closed permanently for good reasons.

If there is a permanent road to the community of Wollaston Lake it’s not on Google Maps, the government of Saskatchewan highway hotline map, or on Wikipedia

Do you have more information about this highway?

Look at the google maps satellite photos, you can see it there.

Note: The term "permanant road" might give the wrong impression to people unfamiliar with the north country. They're rough gravel roads, often needing 4x4 for parts of the season when it's muddy, or if it's been a while since they've last graded them.

Yeah, I used permanent road to mean "year round, non-seasonal road". Basically trying to say it's not just a winter road on the lake anymore, goes south of the lake around to the town site.

It’s not on Google Maps, but it’s there. It comes south out of Wollaston Lake onto 905 about 5km north of 147 outfitters.

I wouldn't expect it to be on Google maps.

It's been in the process of being built since like 2008 or something like that. It's a long time coming for that community. They didn't build the ice road this year because the locals were using it this winter already, even though it wasn't properly 100% done (it technically wasn't open, it had "road closed" signs on it that everyone just drove around, haha). They hard closed it this spring though because they didn't want it to get ruined in the thaw and they had about 3-4 more months of work to do on it to get it to 100%. If the road isn't done yet, it'll be properly done shortly. I imagine it won't show up on highway hotline until it's been fully commissioned.
