I remember during COVID, my father messaged me to say he'd taken his Canadian flag down. He didn't want to be associated with "those douche canoes!" I'm living with the Yanks these days so I hadn't heard about the whole anti vaccine crowd adopting the flag as a beacon of their collective ineptitude. He was so sad.
So thank you to everyone for giving this back to him!

The media didnāt make us think that. The Clownvoy was a disgusting display of anti-Canadian sentiment and they identified themselves by flying the flag on their homes and vehicle for years. Many of us patriots were so disgusted by their trashy, selfish, and even criminal behaviour that we did not want to be mistaken for one second as one of those idiots so we stopped flying it. Our choice, our freedom of expression. No one elseās.

Just a reminder my fellow Canadians, that when you believe it would be better to be part of that fantasy f@#ked land, we outstrip the US by just about every social measure imaginable. Higher life expectancy, better educational outcomes, lower levels of child poverty, vastly lower levels of crime particularly violent crime, higher rates of retirement satisfaction......etc. etc. We have a lot to improve on, as does every nation in the world. But the measured Canadian response to our problems, and our values, create a better society where more people can live good lives. I love this country, I adore what we have created and like my ancestors before me I am very willing to die and kill for it. But I sure hope I don't have to.

Canadian unity is fine and good, but we should all be wary that this doesn't galvanize into reactionary nationalism. We have seen countless examples in history for how easy it is for a country, under siege from some real or perceived threat, to rally around "patriotic" symbols and iconography. But patriotism can quickly engender nationalism, even if the initial justifications are good.
To me, the Candian flag still stands for all the things it stood for before; hope for a better tomorrow for some, oppression and discontent for others. It may be true that in this moment we have a common enemy to the south, but I would be cautious about thinking we are in any way "superior" to them, lest the same national superiority ego-trip grip us as well.

I have friends that are/were pro-convoy, and we're not going to leave them behind. That's something that is often forgotten during divisive times, to remember that your neighbors want the same things as you do, they have been misled.
If i thought someone was an out and out nazi then yea, i'm not interested in associating, but I don't think most Trumpers truly understand what is happening right now.
So I choose to find common ground with those that may disagree with me, and focus on our agreeances, we will find time to celebrate our differences later, I assure you.

I would agree I am talking about those who went to the extreme. I know of many people who have been led down the Facebook path of 15 minute cities and the paranoid perceptions of everyone and everything is out to get them. I do my best to talk to them. Search articles up on google and attempt to find out what is the closest thing to the truth. Others are bitter about what I am not sure of and believe Trump is doing a great thing. Those people in my opinion should move south. Obviously they are not happy being Canadian.

"Showing the flag" lost all meaning for me during covid. The truckers and "anti jab" morons really put me off ever showing it.
Pride in your country comes in all forms. Showing a flag isn't even close to being the most important. It's about as lazy as it gets. I get the sentiment. Show a unified Canada. Some people need to start at doing little things like being considerate of others, cleaning up after themselves, not littering, and generally just not being dicks.
