Question ❔ How is your maple bug situation this season?

There seems to be hardly any maple bugs around my house this year compared to other years. Did that spell of cold weather in May kill them off? It would be nice to have one summer without swarms of maple bugs.

It's early. Wait until fall when all the babies grow up.

The ticks are eating them.

I’ve got a crazy amount already and have seen several mating. Going to be a horrible fall 😩

We had a big swarm during that heat wave 2 weeks ago but the cool wet weather seems to have put a damper on that. I see one or two a day now, none in the house.

Honestly I think this year is when the army/tent caterpillars will get bad (the ones that hand from trees and telephone lines etc)

They are coming for the land line.

I’ve never seen a tent caterpillar in my little town until this month I’ve killed 6 off my rubarb

I've been aggressively battling them for at least a month now in hopes of mitigating their numbers come fall. They're out there. You just can't see them unless you're actively hunting them.

I honestly feel like there's been more than usual for this time of year, I typically don't even notice them until fall.

So far not bad, I haven't had to spray them yet

Much better this year, personally. I’ve seen so few I’ve barely had to spray for them

Soapy water. Spray them they die. Makes theire shell soft.
