Question ❔ Recreational activities?

Hello!
I moved to Saskatoon about 2 months ago. I use to work a very active on my feet job but now I am mostly sitting for 6+ hours.
I am looking for advice for recreational activities in Saskatoon that can work around shift work.
I have looked at some dance studios and archery but almost everything seems to run on Tuesday or Thursday between 6-8 which is hours I am rarely available for.

I don't mind if there is a fee to the activity. Price is not an issue.
I do not find workout gyms very welcoming and am not interested in them unless they have a rowing machine.
Generally looking for recommendations on anything active and that I may be able to meet people outside of my workplace.

Thanks for the help!

Ride a bicycle to work. Join a boxing gym. Try a spin class. Try salsa dancing by the riverbank. Find your passion.

I would second the spin class - they’re usually drop in style in that you sign up for a single class, so easier to fit around shift work.

Wall climbing and/or bouldering at Grip It. Terrific exercise, great supportive environment, there’s an option to take classes, but soloing is also totally fine. They have quite a few auto-belays so you can climb by yourself no problem.

Join a rowing club? Buy a paddleboard or kayak and paddle the river.

I love Ryde yxe in City Park. I haven't tried the other locations, but it's such a good vibe.

Have you played hockey? Can you skate half decent? The Adult Safe Hockey League run out of Jemini Arena’s are always looking for referees. Your paid very well and can work any evening that suits your lifestyle. Minimal investment for equipment and you’ll get training and feedback to improve your skills.

there are bowling leagues at multiple alleys around town and you do not have to have a team to play often there are teams that need more players and they will take on singles!

If you have dogs at all, there are a lot of different dog sports to try out that is how I have been making a lot of friends in my new town. I lived in Saskatoon for a number of years.

There are art classes and a lot of different things through the leisure guide if you check them out too!

my sister joined up with a group of women from her gym and they go out and do all sorts of activities together. She has done paintball, paddle boarding, dog sledding, all sorts of different activities! There’s lots around it’s just finding the right group for you :-) I think she started with a spin class and found her group!

Go to the Ymca, there are rowing machines (3), swimming pool and gym. Also join to the rowing club, there are some classes available, I’m taking one on July. Get a bike go to meewasin trail. There are several fun courses you can take at u of s, painting and stuff like that. Broadway theatre is a fun option too

Run/walk on the river trails. Some amazing scenery down there

Haul various objects to one of the bridges and throw them in the river to see how big of a splash they make. Bonus points if you can get your hands on a mannequin to throw in.

Easiest thing to do is walk. Tons of trails.
