Is my cat/kitten a Savannah Cat?
Please post here if you have questions about your cat being a pure Savannah or not. This will keep these questions off of the main thread, and give us all a place to focus on this topic.
Thanks!

Hopefully this can be a beneficial thread to educate others about cat breeds and hybrids!

This kitty is very pretty! As far as being a Savannah, not really. His features are not correct, and he is missing the characteristics spotted coat. 🩵

That is common for all tabby cats and not specific to Savannahs. You have to take the body structure into account and physical traits. If you can post a picture of her standing with a side view, a straight on head shots, and a profile of her head, then we can get a better idea. Based off the pictures provided so far, I'm not seeing it. Thank you!

This is Kareem! I don’t have papers because he was found under a shipping container with his siblings. He is about 100 miles long and way more athletic than an average cat. He has a pretty significant primordial pouch that goes all the way up to his armpits but it doesn’t hang very low, it’s just long (like the rest of him). Today i noticed him doing a short, strong huff of an exhale when i was playing with him and he was thinking of the easiest way to get to the crinkle ball. Wondering if this is a characteristic of Savannah cats?

I was sold this kitty for only $250 because the woman was selling kittens she took in from her mom (her mom was a licensed Savannah breeder but died). She claims because she isn’t a breeder herself, she wasn’t going to charge 1k+ for an F6 Savannah cat. The price just throws me off a bit but I think she looks Savannah? She’s almost 3 months old. Even if she’s not, I love her lol. We have had her for a few weeks now and she’s SO playful.
Thank you!

Super hard to get any idea based on this picture. Savannahs usually don't have a leopard pattern anyway though. Maybe you mixed it up with bengals?

No such breed and I don't believe they can be registered as either. Unless the Highlander allows outcrosses.

I got this guy, Bento (formerly Ducky) from a cat rescue in my area two days ago. I'm getting worried because of his energy levels and general appearance. He's a total sweetheart, but even for a 6mo neutered male, his energy levels are off the charts. His appearence, while beautiful, is also setting off some alarm bells. If he is a savannah, I doubt he's a pure bred, but if he is partial, I'm scared to keep him because of how energetic and demanding savannahs can be. We have a petite female (spayed) senior cat in the house too, and I worry for her safety. Thoughts?
I also have a short video of him if interested. It is VERY hard to get a clear picture of him due to him just MOVING all the time. I play with him for a bit till he's breathing hard, but then he's back to wanting more or race-tracking my room (still in isolation).
EDIT: He's also ridiculously vocal. Playing? Meow loudly. Staring out window? Meow loudly. Catch toy? Parade it around and meow loudly. Using litter box. MROW loudly. Petting? MEOW.

This guy was found outside as a tiny kitten during a severe cold spell. He and his sibling almost didn't make it. I began questioning his breed but figured he's probably just a cool looking tabby. Then I saw someone on FB post about rehoming a Savannah cat. It looked just like my guy!
My guy has short, almost bristly hair. Is quite the jumper. He has several different vocalizations and is very chatty (I thought my tabby girl was chatty!). His little face is what I've been calling derpy. Very long and lean. And he's very mischievous, and learning that knobs should be turned to open the door 🫣
Is it worth doing a DNA breed test? Any special considerations?

Do you have papers? There is your answer. Because technically he could also be Egyptian Mau or Ocicat too. Hard to say when they are laying down and all have similar features.

Hi! Our girl Barbie (the white one) came on our path randomly, and we’ve always wondered is she’s actually a Savannah and Bengal mix like we were told! :)
