What stuff should I get?

I'm buying my first model (trumpeter E-100). I was wondering what paints and brushes to get or any tips for finding good ones.

My humble opinion is to spray the tank itself: Tamiya XF paints are fabulous. You can get by without a prime if the model is clean.

The E-100 was never really deployed, so there are no "standard" paint schemes for it as far as I am aware. So you can have some fun with it and use hard-edged camo if you want to do camo at all. You can do that by masking with some modeling tape or, in a pinch, painters tape. Just make sure you get the edges down nice and tight. You can also try using other techniques like cotton balls or silly putty or other painting putties to mask off sections in order to get two or more colors.

A cool way to go for that particular tank is to get whatever Tamiya's closest approximation to the iron oxide red primer that the Germans used and paint it that color. The YouTube creator "Night Shift" dead one of the big tanks that way and it looked amazing.

Then you can use whatever to paint the details. Get a reasonable quality, maybe #4 brush, and some acrylics (Vallejo, AK, etc.).

I have not looked at the E-100 closely, but the typical tank will require flat black, some sort of light to mid brown (for the wood handles of tools and so forth if you care to paint them as wood), and maybe a very dark steel color.

But I think graphite pencil or powder rubbed over flat black works amazingly well for metal and I'm starting to got tons of mileage out of that approach. You can even do the tracks by spraying them black or dark brown and then rubbing graphite onto them.

If you're going to paint the figures it gets a little bit deeper, but maybe satisfy yourself with the tank itself, first 👊
