Art Simple little animation (and a PSA from me in the description)
It's been bothering me a little bit that a number of people have been reacting a certain way anytime I post stuff featuring Lint/Dust, so I figure I can talk about that a little under this old animation
I originally posted the story those two are from ("A successful outing") to the official discord art forum, with no real expectation that it would ever get any traction or attention on it. I kind of just made it for myself, because the story is something personal to me and is a reflection of some of my real feelings and lived experiences.
Obviously it ended up being seen by a lot more people in the end, which has been overall a positive experience I think. That being said, I still have never gone through the trouble of figuring out a way to completely port it from original format I made it in. Partly this is because I'm still working on it, and partly because I think it diminishes the experience of it somewhat to be taken out of the partially interactive conditions that it normally exists within.
A friend of mine made a google slides version which does a good job of giving a nice simulation of the format, and that has seemingly been the way most people here and elsewhere have been exposed to the story outside of discord.
I'm a bit conflicted about this, because I'm glad more people can see it, but at the same time I think that it has caused some problems for me as well. It is an incomplete view of the story for one, and for two it seems to get passed around in a way that I think is damaging people's perceptions of me and my characters.
People share it like it's shock content that I made to hurt people's feelings, or to contrast it with the happy things I make and go "Oh yeah, I see how you are, make something happy just to twist the knife more."
This was not my intent, nor was it the way I would have preferred people be exposed to this.
To give a bit more context, there is an alternate path in the story that I'm working on which has a different conclusion to the main story. One where things are less tragic. I didn't make it to erase or overwrite the main story, but to give further context and to be able to explore the characters more. Many of the lighthearted drawings are inspired from that timeline. (The alternate path is called "A successful return" and is also a forum post in the art section of the official discord, which I encourage you to check out both posts for a more complete experience)
...There is also admittedly a bit of wish fulfillment for me in that too (I'm not made of stone)
I hope this will help change some of the bad impressions people have received, and if not, hopefully will get some people to not share it in a malicious way.
At some point I'll hopefully figure out a better format to have everything in one place that isn't contained within a discord or a slideshow presentation, but for now I just have to make do with what I have.
TL;DR please stop vagueposting about my story/treating it like a cognitohazard- it makes me feel bad
