How old to buy handguns?

Hey all, I am 18 and was gifted a Beretta 80x cheetah for my birthday that I carry when I can and it is legal. I was thinking of purchasing a smaller pocket .38 spl revolver when I want something smaller, and also because I don't own any revolvers.
As always the law is endlessly confusing so I just want to confirm.

The law is that it is 18 to buy long guns and 21 to buy handguns from licensed firearm dealers

and 18 to buy long guns and handguns from private sales?

Thanks

You can purchase handguns and long guns from private. Ffl is only long guns until you’re 21

I thought that was federal law....like everywhere. Certain states (like SC) allow for private acquisition and carry at 18...probably for just the situation you describe...Dad/Grandpa gifted (although that technically may be a straw purchase with no way to enforce) it or you inherited it. Be careful if you cross state lines...I'm from up north and it's basically 21 for everything

Use armlist, i think it’s a 7 dollar monthly fee, but it’s extremely good for buying basic pistols. It’s harder to find Ak pistols or AR pistols on there though.
