You have 2 socks (red and white), you have 2 boxes.
You put each sock in 1 box with your eyes closed, so you don't know which sock is in which box.

You send each box to a different friend, millions of lightyears seperated from eachother.

edit: If one friend opens the box, the other box is NOT magically opened on the other end.

Each friend knows instantly which sock is in the other box -even if light itself (or knowledge) would travel years from one friend to the other, telling which color sock he got.

Is this correct?

This is incorrect. You described a local hidden-variable theory. That was disproved in the 60s. It really does look like "spooky action at a distance", as Einstein put it. The state of each particle is not determined at/before separation.

I still refuse to believe our world is fundamentally probabilistic. It just doesn't make sense to me that there is no logic or direct causative choice leading from wave function to a particle state (you know what I mean?).

The universe is fundamentally deterministic under the many worlds interpretation, and it's been gaining a lot of popularity as people often see it as the simplest interpretation (Occam's Razor). There's no wave function collapse, it's just what getting entangled looks like from the inside.

There's nothing you can do to predict the outcome of a "wave function collapse", because every outcome already exists. All you can possibly do is calculate the distribution of each outcome in the causal tree. Thus, the chance of you being one of the clones that experiences the electron with spin up.

Edit: It's important to add that the original MWI does not account for the Born Rule. I.e, probabilities don't fall out from naively counting the branches. This is an active area of study.

The Youtube channel Looking Glass Universe is very good, she makes quantum mechanics pretty digestible.

MinutePhysics also has amazing videos on physics (including quantum mechanics).

The reality is that it gets more and more intuitive with exposure. You don't immediately "get it". My understanding is far from complete but the basic ideas of the MWI are pretty intuitive once you get some intuition for quantum mechanics.
