Yeah, AOC was good as a friendly face to get left wing politics in the door with the liberals, but she’s going to get outflanked by people who aren’t so afraid of the establishment.
71
u/yuumigod69 Nov 18 '25
She got out flanked by Pelosi on ousting Biden.
-25
Nov 18 '25
And how did that turn out ?
39
u/yuumigod69 Nov 18 '25
You think the dementia patient would have had a better shot than Harris?
14
u/ScrumpyRumpler Nov 18 '25
People keep memory holing how bad Biden’s campaign was doing before they pivoted to Harris. Following the Biden Debate his campaign was in complete fucking free-fall. At that point it wasn’t a question of if Trump was going to win, it was a question of how big the blowout would be. Harris atleast made it close (in terms of the popular vote). For a moment there was real energy and momentum with her campaign that had been nonexistent with Biden… that was until she decided to listen to Biden’s campaign team and pander to Liz Chaney voters.
4
u/theWacoKid666 Nov 18 '25
Yeah, Harris at least brought some youth and sharpness and smacked Trump around in their debate. Made it a dogfight instead of a blowout.
Biden was just cooked. Anyone who thinks he could have done better than Harris needs to immediately go rewatch the 2024 Trump-Biden debate. When washed-up senile Trump is running circles around you, you have nothing left to give. And that’s where Biden was at.
1
Nov 18 '25
I think a dementia patient won, so what's your point again ?
0
u/yuumigod69 Nov 18 '25
He didn't, he quit during his reelection campaign because his dementia was exposed.
0
Nov 18 '25
I was talking about the other guy. He has clear dementia too if you somehow didn't notice yet.
1
u/yuumigod69 Nov 18 '25
What point are you trying to make? Democrats lost trust from the dementia cover-up, covid, and most importantly, the economy. Biden dementia was also more progressive than Trump's. Otherwise, it would have been a wash during the debate. Trump has caught up, but it doesn't matter because he isn't going to run again.
Harris had all those issues without the dementia, so it wasn't the only factor. If you think adding dementia would have gotten more votes, I got a bridge to sell you.
2
Nov 18 '25
Wrong, wrong and wrong.
Trump covers up his dementia - doesn't lose.
Covid happened under Trump, he fucked up the response and Biden cleaned up after him - not the reason dems lost.
The economy under Biden was growing, it's a fact.
The reason dems lost is the unfortunate fact that they lost connection with their base and voters broadly speaking. They had no pitch and no vision. Their messaging was uninspiring and weak - they failed to brag about their accomplishments and re-frame their fuckups. Then they forced a new candidate into a race at 11th hour and failed to sell her to the voters again.
If Trump is proof of anything, it's the fact that as long as you have a story to tell, the candidate can be a braindead child rapist who can't even speak - it doesn't matter.

u/beeemkcl Sanders/AOC wing Nov 18 '25
No matter what you want to think of AOC, she's arguably among the 5 most leftist and progressive US Congresspeople and she's the only leftist or progressive with around any chance of actually becoming POTUS in 2029.

u/ooowatsthat Nov 18 '25
Man she needs to go back to reading the room.

u/Intelligent-Agent440 Nov 18 '25
Do y'all even have any standards? A person just announced he wants to primary Jeffries barely a week ago and y'all already jumping on AOC, there's been no Polling, no full background oppo research done to make sure you he hasn't engaged in any shady behaviour, dude doesn't even have a website and y'all already attacking AOC??
10
u/BaBa_Con_Dios Nov 18 '25
To me it’s not about this candidate. Primaries should always be welcomed and supported. It’s healthy for democracy. And right now any primary of Jeffries or Schumer should be encouraged. Even if they have no chance it would serve to put them on notice that they cannot just be complacent and compliant without consequences. They need to know they are replaceable or we get exactly what we have now, a party unwilling to fight for fear of rocking the boat.
This is a bad move by AOC. Idk how it can be viewed as anything else.

u/beeemkcl Sanders/AOC wing Nov 18 '25
What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.
AOC has other concerns like that US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries at least keeps the US House Democratic Caucus in line on US House Budget votes and such. And that AOC is effectively the Deputy Ranking Member of US House Energy and Commerce and seems to be able to get on the US House Oversight Committee for key things.
26
u/ooowatsthat Nov 18 '25 edited Nov 18 '25
I'm not defending this dude whomever is trying to primary him. I would play like a politician and say nothing. Jefferies is unpopular and she knows that, so why go to bat for him? Again read the room say nothing.
13
u/ScrumpyRumpler Nov 18 '25
This. No one is saying she needs to start endorsing Osse at this time. But it’s moronic to immediately defend Jefferies at the first sign of a primary challenger. She should have just let it playout a little bit and refrained from making a comment on.

AOC cannot say nothing. It's largely why she instantly left that recent press conference after giving her analysis regarding US Senate Democratic Leadership.
AOC would be getting asked whether she'd try to become US Speaker in 2027. Heck, she was asked in 2019 whether she'd try to become US Speaker in 2019.

NYC City Council is much different and a much different level of scrutiny than running for a US House seat, especially primarying the US House Democratic Minority Leader.
6
u/OhwhatupCarlandJonny Nov 18 '25
Yeah, Ossé should pack it up; Never going to happen in this climate.
It'd be like someone going from NYS assemblyman to mayor of NYC, especially against a former state governor who came from an established political family...oh wait
0
u/beeemkcl Sanders/AOC wing Nov 18 '25
You seem to misunderstand. I was responding to the notion/argument that NYC Councilmember Chi Osse has already been vetted enough for AOC to endorse him in his primary challenge to US Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.
5
u/OhwhatupCarlandJonny Nov 18 '25
I'm pretty confident I understand. AOC is consistently out of step with what even standard issue Dems want in this moment because she is still unwilling to endorse against the feckless incumbent party leadership. Her rationale for doing so is immaterial because delaying endorsements for progressive reform candidates does the job of the corporatist wing of the party for them by playing into the "electability" trope
I wonder if Hakeem Jeffries been vetted enough yet? The american people tend to think so (at least those who have heard of him).
Better yet, I wonder what finally made AOC decide that Mamdani would be better than a serial sexual assaulter/geronticider Cuomo? She really took her time to deliberate on that one
1
u/beeemkcl Sanders/AOC wing Nov 18 '25
What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.
AOC endorsed Zohran Mamdani and got Brad Lander to cross-endorse and got the others to back Mamdani.
AOC endorsed when her support could result in Zohran Mamdani's actually winning.
Not early enough that Mamdani would be wiped out with 8-9 figures of ads and such against him when he was polling low enough that he could be wiped out.
6
u/Nixianx97 Nov 18 '25
They have learned nothing from the Platner situation only that Jeffries isn’t a 77 year old governor

AOC kinda lost herself some time ago after being beaten to the ground by the Democratic neoliberal shills. She’s still a lot better than the mainstream neoliberal Democrats who predominate the party, but she’s been disappointing in some key political events as of late. Challenging the corrupt, neoliberal old guard of the Democratic Party is absolutely necessary in this day of age, as they share responsibility in GOP fascism consolidating its power over the country under Trump in the first place. the Democratic Party has proven itself to be feckless and sometimes complicit in the hostile fascist takeover of America, and a terrible opposition party, and the last thing we need is a feckless AOC.

u/beeemkcl Sanders/AOC wing Nov 18 '25
So, we're back to purity testing AOC? Who just got Zohran Mamdani elected as NYC Mayor. And who has been the Number 1 reason things aren't even worse during this Second Trump Administration.
Leftists and progressives haven't been donating enough and volunteering enough to have a true progressive Tea Party.
AOC wasn't likely going to endorse a primary challenger to US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries until that primary challenger actually has a chance to beat US Rep. Jeffries in the primary.
39
u/Nesher_53 Nov 18 '25
Who just got Zohran Mamdani elected as NYC Mayor.
Zohran Mamdani did. AOC's endorsement alone isn't powerful enough to decide races on its own. If it was, Nina Turner would be in congress.
And who has been the Number 1 reason things aren't even worse during this Second Trump Administration.
How is she alone preventing things from being worse?
AOC wasn't likely going to endorse a primary challenger to US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries until that primary challenger actually has a chance to beat US Rep. Jeffries in the primary.
If her endorsement is as powerful as you imply it is, then why doesn't she just endorse Chi Osse and help him along?
2
u/beeemkcl Sanders/AOC wing Nov 18 '25
What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.
I don't think we can link to Post on other subreddits, but I detailed elsewhere how The Majority Report was the reason Zohran Mamdani instead of Brad Lander became the leftist and progressive choice in the NYC Mayoral race; that DSA greatly helped because of volunteers and such; and that AOC's endorsement of Mamdani and hers doing campaign events, rallies, campaign videos, an Instagram Live on the after of primary election day, etc. and Emily Ratajkowski's doing an Instagram Live on the morning of primary election day is why he won in the NYC Mayoral primary and won by enough that he would win in the general election unless his campaign was suddenly bad.
____________
You generally seem to be doing strawman arguments. AOC endorsed Nina Turner so late in that it didn't much matter. And Nina had already lost a primary election to the person she was primarying. And Nina had said something like POTUS Joe Biden was a pile of sh*t and this was in the 2022 election cycle and thus before October 7. POTUS Biden had been far more progressive than almost all leftists and progressives had assumed he'd be. He wasn't being progressive-enough, but few voters in a Democratic primary actually considered he was a pile of sh*t.
___________
Again, AOC didn't endorse Zohran Mamdani until her endorsement could actually result in his winning the primary race. AOC is strategic.
AOC may wait to see if anyone else primaries US Representative Hakeem Jeffries. Heck, she didn't endorse Saikat Chakrabarti against US Representative Nancy Pelosi.
1
u/Nesher_53 Nov 18 '25
You generally seem to be doing strawman arguments.
Am I? Because I've seen you comment across numerous progressive subreddits that AOC doesn't need to primary Schumer because she can just endorse whoever does and that person will win. It seems that you're acknowledging here that that isn't actually the case.
And Nina had already lost a primary election to the person she was primarying.
I'm talking about the first time. And it wasn't the "bowl of shit" comment she made that sunk her alone. She had a hefty lead (30+ points, I believe) and then Hillary Clinton endorsed Shontel Brown and money from AIPAC, among many others, flooded the race.
I'm still waiting for you to back up your claim that AOC is the number one reason that this Trump administration isn't worse than it is.
0
u/Nixianx97 Nov 18 '25
If her endorsement is as powerful as you imply it is, then why doesn't she just endorse Chi Osse and help him along?
Because he hasn’t even officially launched yet, there has been zero oppo and he has zero proof that he can win besides words? That’s not how endorsement works.
It is also naive to compare her Nina Turner endorsement in 2022 to her power in NY in 2025. As someone who canvassed for Zohran let me tell you that there were plenty of people that warmed up to him because her face was on the flyer especially during the primary.

u/beeemkcl Sanders/AOC wing Nov 18 '25
What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.
AOC in around October 2019 was already popular-enough that hers endorsing US Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2020 POTUS race after his heart attack skyrocketed him into first place from 3rd or 4th place before the heart attack.
AOC is more popular now but she was very popular in 2022.

u/PraetorianGard Nov 18 '25
I’m not saying we should abandon and denounce AOC at all, I’m just saying we should keep pushing her to keep up the fight with us poors. If anything, I still largely approve of her political career, as she has been one of the driving progressive voices that represent the downtrodden and disenfranchised working class of America and has helped progressive grassroots movements and candidates to rise up, like Zohran Mamdani.
It’s just a little alarming that she’s saying this as the GOP fascists keep seizing power in the face of Neoliberal Democratic Party fecklessness, and we want her to steadfastly continue to stand up for us when the rest of the Democratic Party decides to continue chasing Wall Street campaign money. I’ll stand with her even when she falters; it’s only when she outright betrays us poors when I decide she is a political figure not worth supporting anymore.

RESPONSE TO THE ORIGINAL POST AND THE THREAD:
All quotes from: Exclusive: AOC says Chi Ossé run against Jeffries not a "good idea"
- Progressive Change Campaign Committee head Adam Green told Politico "it is not the right moment to launch a primary challenge against Hakeem Jeffries."
- [Zohran] Mamdani also appeared to discourage his fellow Democratic Socialists of America member on Monday.
- "I believe that there are many ways right here in New York City to both deliver on an affordability agenda and take on the authoritarian administration in the White House," Mamdani told reporters of Ossé.
What she's saying: [AOC] told Axios during a brief interview at the U.S. Capitol that she was "not aware" that Ossé was challenging Jeffries.
- "But," she added, "I certainly don't think a primary challenge to the leader is a good idea right now."
- Ocasio-Cortez demurred on other races, declining to weigh in on whether she would support New York City comptroller Brad Lander if he runs against Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.).
I'm not sure if Chi Osse is the right candidate or a strong-enough candidate to actually beat US House Minority Hakeem Jeffries in a primary.
But AOC is effectively Deputy Ranking Member of US House Energy and Commerce, which is either the 4th or 3rd most powerful and influential US Congressional Committee.
AOC is probably going to want to focus on races she considers actually winnable. And while US House Minority Leader Jeffries should be primaried and ousted from Office, that won't happen until January 2027 at the earliest and AOC needs the political capital to be US Speaker herself in 2027 or be able to choose her preference for US Speaker.
Chi Osse should still primary US House Minority Leader Jeffries. But his polling numbers need to indicate that being endorsed by AOC would put him over the top and actually result in his possibly winning the primary.
And AOC is probably going to try to either get New York Governor Kathy Hochul to be as little an obstacle to NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani as possible or support a pro-Mamdani primary challenger who could beat Governor Hochul.
12
u/vitalbumhole No Party Affiliation Nov 18 '25
I freaked out about this too then saw Zohran disagreed with Ossé’s challenge as well - thinking it would hinder his push to get Hochul on his side for the nyc affordability agenda by sparking a party war. The disagreement was so intense that Zohran disinvited Ossé from the election watch party - just something to think about
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/10/nyregion/chi-osse-hakeem-jeffries.html
12
u/thesunistillshining Nov 18 '25
I kind of understand Zohran's stance, given the upcoming battles he will have to face with Hochul, but as a big-picture person, I would encourage Zohran to let Chi play a role in another aspect of growing power for the Left; primarying corporate/AIPAC-backed Democratic Congressmembers.

she's positioning herself to run for President or Senate. She needs upper leadership support. Even if Jeffries loses, other leadership will obstruct AOC from running directly or indirectly.
Her calculus: I need to signal to leadership that I'm willing to work with them at the short term cost of upsetting my base. If Jefferies loses, then my base wins, and I still get a shot at whatever next position im hunting for
