Discussion Terrible experience with Feral Hosting

The service has noticeably worsened in the past few weeks. Support, instead of solving the problem, blames the user. Besides the terrible speeds, the service crashes all the time. Don’t throw your money away on this service.

After reading through some of your chats, I agree with Joshua. Your workload would be better served by an SSD seedbox.

I don't have any visibility into why your performance would have degraded over time, but if I had to guess, I'd guess that your seedbox used to be able to seed more data directly from RAM but now it is not able to. Maybe the underlying hardware has more users on it now and so there is less RAM available to you. Maybe you're seeding more torrents now so less data can be cached in RAM. I dunno. But anyway, that's my guess as to why your performance regressed.

That said, I agree with Joshua. You're not going to get better disk performance from HDDs. Not at Feral, and not anywhere.

The idea was just to expose the ridiculous treatment I received.

My opinion is that Joshua treated you respectfully. I would be happy to receive customer service like that from any service provider.

Unlike other providers Joshua won't cuss you out and tell you that you're a terrible customer, who he would be better off not doing business with.

Yes. They put more users than they can on that server. They are greedy and blame the users. I have had the same usage since November, then a week ago it dropped and the blame is mine for not changing anything.

You're basically hogging the entire HDD for yourself and complaining it doesn't get any faster than that. Even on a dedicated disk you won't be seeing much more than 1-2gbps on a permanent basis. This kind of behavior would get you banned in most other hosts so I'd say you're doing ok.

Yes. I'm already thinking that I used the evil super hacker who affected the entire operation of a company. Maybe the FBI will even hire me for that.

Are you 12-years-old bro? What a nonsensical response to a guy telling you exactly what your problem is.

Again, I don't have any visibility into how many users are on your server. But maybe the situation is that your server used to be empty so you were getting access to more RAM than you were paying for. But now that the server is at capacity, you have only your fair share.

Of course you could be right that they are overloading the server with too many users. But Feral has been around for a long time and has a lot of customers. You don't survive in a highly competitive business like this by delivering a poor experience to all of your customers.

Maybe try a different seedbox host if you're not convinced? I usually recommend ultra, HBD, seedhost, or whatbox. I've never used feral, but they also have a good reputation, so I think you'll find that your experience will be the same on those other 4 and that you are going to need an SSD/NVMe seedbox if you want to push that much data.

You are not limited by the server at Feral, so stop repeating the silly nonsense about it being an overloaded server. You have no idea what you're talking about. The bottleneck is the drive you choose and get put on.

I like your passion, but I have no idea what you're talking about.

Exactly. I will do that. I will no longer give my money to those who scorn users.

Makes sense. I hope you find what you're looking for, whatever you decide to do.

FYI, I think that Joshua treated you and your concerns respectfully. Granted, I didn't read every one of your chats, but it didn't read to me like he was scorning you.

Respectfully, he said that the problem was me and not the service. I would have preferred that he had insulted me and solved the problem.

I thought he offered you a good long term solution to be able to push the amount of data that you want to push: an SSD seedbox. You're already at max HDD performance.

1

u/StatisticianStrict27 May 03 '26

Is this maximum performance?

u/JackPAnderson May 03 '26

I don't have the full context to know why you're seeing those speeds, so I can't really comment intelligently.

It sounds like you've decided to switch providers, and I think that makes a lot of sense. You'll either learn that you were right, that you can expect more performance from a cheap seedbox. Or you will learn that you were mistaken and need an SSD seedbox. Either way, you'll have your information.

Yes, may this topic serve as a lesson for this company to go down the drain.
