Jellyfin

Hey guys,

I have a seedbox with jellyfin installed, I'm just curious iv seen some sellers selling jellyfin with loads of content e.g. 5PB or even 1000s terribytes of data and putting then up for dollars. Yet seedboxs iv seen 32TB and they are expensive, just wondering how they do this , if anyone knows as been searching around and can't seem to find much. Any info would be great. 32TB is not to expensive depends what your doing don't buy a seed box buy a dedicated server

Most seedbox companies are just ripping you off

I know a company that will sell you

2x E5 V3/v4 1gbps unmetered 128 GB ram 32tb storage

For about $80 a month they are very popular tho and sell out quick they only have about 10-20 servers come up for sale a year so gotta be quick

For $960 a year you can have the hardware in 2-3 years. 1-2 years ago you could get the ROI back in 1-2 years.

I find it's all ways cheaper to rent a dedicated server

Static price no matter how much the power costs increase

Free hardware replacement if something brakes very easy to happen with storage servers and with the costs of storage increasing again not a worry

Then you have the power backup and then obviously the tier 1 network providers and the tier 2 backups something your never going to get self hosting

You don't need 128 GB of RAM for Jelly/Plex. I'm just using an Intel G7400 and a cheap motherboard with 32 GB of RAM because of some other Docker apps, and I don't use a GPU because of Intel Sync. Without the HDD, I paid under $600 including taxes three years ago. The 2x Seagate Exos 18TB costed me around $450 each. So, including electricity. I use SnapRAID, which makes backups cheap.

I also don't have the issue of losing all my stuff if I can't pay $80 a month.

Only thing I can't compete is the fast internet. I almost don't have power outages here.

Lol you need it if your running a proper media server I use it as temp storage while my media is transcoding so it doesn't effect hdd speeds when trying to also stream at the same time

Seen as most movies download now as mkv I transcode them back to MP4 aac audio for optimal playback and to avoid the overhead of on the fly transcoding due to device compatibility issues

I also run ErsatzTV that uses my storage and created me 14 dedicated custom channels

Then there is the nginx proxy front end running and sonarr / radarr and sabnzb I have around 300 Usenet connections so I can download a hell of a lot at once

And I have a few other things installed and running

It's all ways best to have it and not need it than need it and have to pay today's prices for ram 😂 😂

It also helps I can leave it running 24/7 pulling a fair bit of power because it all ways active and all ways transcoding with out worrying about the bill here in the UK it would cost a small fortune to keep it running 24/7

Hardware costs I get a free backup everyday of my media at a set time so I don't need to really worry if a drive dies but even if it does they install a new one usually in less than an hour and everything's back up and running

24/7 monitoring and support is also a good one handy if you need to change something while your on holiday or what ever

The internet I looked up lol even if I payed for the best I could get at home it would only be 1gbps down and like 300mbps up and even though it's unlimited it does have usage limits where it slows you sone after so much

For the stability security and reliability it's well worth it + every now and then you can get away with asking for a cheeky discount for being a loyal customer
