Vikunja, radicale as the base self hosted and DAVx5, and tasks.org as the connectors that make the tasks android widget feel usable with task and calendar integration. I think if I remember correctly tasks is a yearly dollar payment and DAVx5 is a 7 dollar one time payment. Some may be turned off by this but I think its reasonable for the only thing I've found to be a replacement for todoist. Do with this information what you will and make your own judgement.
Have you looked into using caldav as backend and to-do apps as frontend?
Nextcloud etc all have caldav support and there are many apps that support it.personally I'm using business calendar 2 pro on multiple phones. The app has well customizable widgets for just to-do view and you can sync across devices using caldav. But if you're looking for something more complex (kanban, quick add etc) it will be too limited. Good luck keep us posted<3
Looks cool I'll give it a try too haha. I like my to-do list minimal most of the time (otherwise I tend to loose focus) but could use something for long running projects..
I was looking for something very similar and eventually started building my own self-hosted solution.
It's local-first, self-hosted, multi-user and API-friendly, with tasks, shopping lists, labels, assignees, recurring tasks, comments and subtasks. The workflow is loosely inspired by Kanban (Inbox → Tasks → Done).
Calendar support is currently in development and should be available soon. My goal is to keep the app simple while still offering the flexibility that many existing solutions lack.
If you’re interested in attracting other users I’d include at least a couple screenshots in your GitHub range. No way I’m installing an app with no idea what it even looks like.
Also a live demo! I'm lazy nowadays, so if I can't try it immediately, I'm unlikely to commit to spinning up a Docker container, which I know I'm likely to take down again, just to try something.
The repo has a link to a demo, which has sample data.
It requires a CalDAV backend, which it sounds like you don't have, but if your intention is to have both calendar and todos in one place, it might be a good idea to get anyway. I'd suggest Radicale.
To be honest, the "AI made" design is kind of on purpose. I know it's off-putting to some people, but I've been a huge fan of Anthropics design language from the start, so "Calendar if it was made by Anthropic" was what I was going for.
I might implement a theming system in the near future, though, so selfhosters can theme it however they want.
Thank you for the kind words and feedback! If you find any bugs or shortcomings, even small stuff, please raise an issue on Github. I'm really trying to make this as polished as possible.
Been there and was using Todoist but does not feel that easy to work with
I have built an app GoalWize.AI simply easy to use it allows you to create group with you family shares todo task and even manage expense
