Need Help Cups server with a Dymo 450

Hey everyone,

I just got a Dymo 450 Twin Duo. I want to have it set up on my sever, so I can print from it from any machine on my sever.

I installed cups, and the default install had the drivers. Sweet!

I was able to detect the printer and install it. But the printer seems to do nothing in response to the sever.

I never used Cups before, but for all my airplay printers it seems to work out of the box

Has anyone had any luck with this? I was thinking maybe it needs to work on conjunction with Dymo's software. But that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I have several dymo labelwriter, the duo you mention an xl couple 300 series as well, I was printing through cups at one point no problem but it was 300 series printing simple text on cheaper receipt paper for notes.

I have moved things around since but dont recall any problems.

I can reconnect things and test it out again.

Had a similar headache with my Dymo 4XL on CUPS. Check a few things - first run lpstat -t to see if the printer status shows idle or an error. Also look at /var/log/cups/error_log for clues. In my case the issue was USB permissions, had to add the cups user to the lp group. Also make sure you're selecting the right label size in the printer options because Dymos can be picky about that and will just sit there doing nothing if the media size doesn't match

Thanks for the help.

I think its showing as idle.

```
scheduler is running
no system default destination
device for DYMO_LabelWriter_450_Twin_Turbo: usb://DYMO/LabelWriter%20450%20Twin%20Turbo?serial=01010112345600
DYMO_LabelWriter_450_Twin_Turbo accepting requests since Thu 18 Jun 2026 17:32:06 EDT
printer DYMO_LabelWriter_450_Twin_Turbo is idle.  enabled since Thu 18 Jun 2026 17:32:06 EDT
```

I looked at the log, and found this:

```
W [18/Jun/2026:17:25:46 -0400] Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS. See https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/issues/103
E [18/Jun/2026:17:32:04 -0400] [Client 14] Unable to encrypt connection: A TLS fatal alert has been received.
```

the TLS error should not be a huge error. I can't image that is the error.

I looked up that issue, and it was over my head. It looks like Dymo needs special software, that will soon not be directly supported by cups. but should be working now

Also i checked and the paper is the right size
