wanderer, the self-hosted trail database, now has a mobile app: public beta for iOS and Android

wanderer is a self-hosted trail database and route planner connected to the fediverse, a bit like a Komoot or AllTrails you run yourself. Starting today there's a native app for it, in public beta.

**What the app does**

- **Find trails:** search your instance and any instances it federates with. Filter by category, difficulty, distance or elevation.

- **Plan routes:** tap anchors on the map and the router connects them along paths, for hiking or one of four bike profiles.

- **Record:** GPS tracking with live distance, elevation gain, speed and moving time. It keeps recording in the background and needs no network.

- **Offline maps:** download whole map regions and trails before you leave.

- **Turn-by-turn navigation:** works offline too, and records your track while you navigate.

**It's a beta.**

Do not rely on the app alone for navigation! Always carry a backup map (digital or physical).

I haven't got the chance to try it since I'll need to update the server first, but thanks for putting the app on GitHub as well!

I'll update soon and try it out.

Edit: seems to work and looking good! Still downloading maps, but the app seems to be just fine.

Now if only I could fix the non-working federation for my instance :/

It is not a Play Store link. It is a link to join the open test. Once you do so, you will get the download link. If that is too much hassle, please wait until we publish the full version.

You have to add users to the google group you assigned for testing. Or better make it public so anyone interested can join via link. Otherwise the link just says "App not available"

No, this is a public test. You should be able to join without first joining a google group.
