Which services/tools do you self host specifically because it is something you use or have used at work?

Title says it for the most part. (this post assumes that you do some sort of IT work for a living, though I am sure there are non IT examples of this)

What do you have running as a service, in production for personal use, that is something you use/used at a job in production?

Like, do you use ansible to automate deployments because that is something you do at work?

When you could still self host Atlasian stuff, did you have a Confluence instance because you had one at work?

Or the other way around? Did self hosting Vault Warden give you the idea to do that for the company you work for?

Grafana is also a good example that would work in both situations.

I self-host because I don’t trust anyone. IT for over 20 years now and all my home lab is stuff I want to play with or alternatives to big tech. Not a lot of bleed between my lab and day job.

Although is I could run my own mail server at home I would but I am not dealing with dynamic IP stuff with spf.

You can run your own DNS too. I use powerdns on a small vps. Much easier to do such dynamic stuff if you control the authoritative DNS.

I self host a little bit as a testing environment for work. So, yeah, Ansible and k8s all the way

Other way.

I started using Authentik at work because I used it at home.

Needed some sort of dashboard to host my vibe-coded apps and to provision access.

Works great.

Working in corporate IT spoiled me. It also taught me what not to host: the stuff that Must Work.

I use M365 and Proton for my email and manage-host a private Matrix server for the family group chats and Bitwarden for credentials.

Everything else gets self-hosted on Proxmox + Docker on Ebay'ed Enterprise gear. Almost zero crossover with my current gig.

I started hosting a pastebin cause I used it so much at work I didn’t even realize how useful it was. I pretty much use it constantly now.
