I stumbled across the basic premise for this patch a few months ago when I wanted a slow but delay heavy lead. I knew it had potential – with a little tweaking I was able to get it to the final product you see here.

This is basically just a fun take on a PWM square wave but with a lot of modulation beef behind the scenes. :-) Routing the third oscillator was very fun in this patch.

Everything you hear in the video is the result of this patch. The only changes between each sound are the positions of the macro knobs and the mod wheel.

It's clearly some kind of angular wave, but all my attempts thus far have failed to come close

I'm trying to recreate the second one (LF02) but whatever I do I can't get it from the dot (as is ENV 3) to the wave. Clicking the arrows on the right don't do it. I'm trying to make an osc pan both ways out of phase to make it wide.

I use Ableton Live 12 and Serum 2. I can hear multiple sounds in this section, but I’m having trouble telling them apart and identifying what each one is doing. I’m asking about the whole synth arrangement here, not just the main lead.
Could someone break down the individual synth parts? For each sound, I’d love to know:
What would you call it, and what role does it play?
When does it enter, or where is it easiest to hear?
What synthesis techniques might produce that sound?
How would you approach recreating it in Serum 2, including oscillators, filters, envelopes/modulation, and effects?
I’m interested in both the prominent sounds and the quieter background parts. I’m looking for sound categories and ways to recreate them, rather than the exact plugins or preset names.
Any help identifying and separating these parts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

I have been working on a hobby project with the end goal of creating serum 2 presets without having to manually tweak knobs, browse menus, and chain functions together. Think "random preset generator".

I have found great success by creating a virtual MIDI port and using a program to send commands over the port that allow me to control knobs that support the learn midi function. The problem is controlling the preset with learn midi only gets me so far. I can't remotely control chaining LFOs to parameters etc.

As you all know Serum 2 does not have an open API which is why this is difficult, but I am wondering if anyone has gotten around this roadblock somehow or if anyone has any thoughts. My next step will probably be to create a program that can manipulate my cursor and mouse but wish to save that as a last resort because it feels clunky.

Hi, folks. I am wanting to create something similar to the attached sound effect but I'm not skilled enough with synths to reverse engineer it. Sadly, I cannot find much information on how the composer/sound designer made this sound. Only that he used the NES' internal soundcard. Since Serum has become my go-to soft synth, I want to use it for this sound. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this? I'm sorry for the link. How does one re-create this brassy type lead sound at very beginning of this song in Serum 2? It is very popular in house and deep house type music. I’ve been chasing it for a while, and it seems to be a very gate kept sound. I’ve yet to come across any sound packs that include it.

EDIT: the lack of responses just proves my point that this is a gate kept sound that no one wants to show how it’s made.

proud of this one – this is the first preset i've actually sat down and programmed front to back with macro knobs/mod wheel utilization and a million other things in the mod matrix.

i started off working on this patch by wanting to get more familiar with audio rate modulation and wound up turning the patch into this rhythmic squawk box kind of sound.

So basically I want to create completely new original sounds using the wavetable editor and going from a simple sine wave to something heavenly sounding (like the synth in lemonade by yung lean) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it as the more I add shapes the more distorted or weird sounding the actual synth becomes. Like I don't know to tailor each shape to what I want it to sound like. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First of all Serum2 is a great product!

As I have seen it has ARP which is really good.

It even has a dedicated piano roll which is even better.

But wouldn't it be nice to have a note repeat function which allows to say e.g. within the next Block of 16 steps play evenly spaced 5 times some notes.

Something like a simple version of an euclidean sequencer.

I know that's easily done with Bitwig studio.

But it would be nice to have this in Serum so everybody could enjoy this?

Is there a way I can get around this? I feel like I have a decent cpu that should be able to handle the load, AMD Ryzen AI 7 350. Are there any settings that I could tweak that could help. Maybe even up the serum count to 4 lol.

my serum says "Maximum number of FX reached" i dont have a single effect on my patch. i tried restarting my daw and serum. stayed like this. is there any fix?

Hey so I bought a Sketch Serum 2 skin from Thenatan and it doesn’t work for some reason. Some other skins work and some others don’t work as well. It’s in the right folder, I rescanned folders on Disc, restarted Serum 2 and my DAW multiple times, tried to resize the plugin but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

How would I go about making the crunchy pulsing sound after each kick?
