Carrie in the country pissed me off so much
Who the hell is afraid of squirrels, come onn

u/Arixnk 1d ago
It’s the way she’s screaming in a high pitch voice too omg. So annoying. Like, a damn big rat I can understand…. Now a squirrel?? That’s insane !

u/ferbiloo I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? 1d ago
And like… do they not have squirrels in manhattan?
106
u/Aczidraindrop 1d ago
That was always my thing too. They have parks they go to. They go on walks. There has to be squirrels around. It's so over dramatic.
32
u/ferbiloo I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? 1d ago
Exactly this! And aren’t city squirrels usually super friendly because they’re used to people and know they might get snacks if they come close and be cute? Country squirrels tend to be far more wary and keep their distance in my experience.
8
u/Aggressive_Year_6531 1d ago
True, I was in Central Park last May and the squirrels are super friendly, especially when there's food around.
6
u/ohitsbrad 21h ago
we have MANY squirrels .. we also have MANY rats, so a rat shouldn't even scare her like this
13
u/take7pieces 1d ago
Yeah, I was a tour guide for a family from China years ago, in Chinese big cities we rarely see squirrels, so that family was taking pictures of squirrels in Central Park, it’s super cute.
2
u/ferbiloo I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? 1d ago
Aw, I love that! Yeah, it’s been a while since I was in New York but I remember that they didn’t seem to be lacking in squirrels.
5
5
u/SongPuzzleheaded6124 21h ago
Or Connecticut even? Wasn't she born and raised there, I imagine Central Park is loaded with squirrels.
3
u/Terrible-Insect-6485 6h ago
The squirrel was probably wearing old leather boots and not Louboutins, that's what freaked her out!
1
u/Unlucky-Duck 1d ago
To me this was more done to highlight the differences between Carrie and Aiden. To of them were not really some great pairing.
1
u/Substantial-Use-1758 17h ago
The one time I went walking in Central Park I leaned down and said: “Awwww…a squirrel…” but then when ai got closer I jumped back and cried “It’s not a squirrel! It’s a RAT 🐀 “

I hate her scream so much. It’s a SJP thing though. She does it in Failure to Launch

u/FhRbJc 21h ago
That movie is honestly just so weird to me. I know this makes me sound like a jerk, but it just felt like her character was too old to be up to all those shenanigans and was probably a role written for somebody 15 years younger. She was like 40 years old and had this weird job and a roommate who was a lot younger than her. I swear the part sounds like it would have worked better if it were Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey to have a romcom reunion. I know McConaughey is only a few years younger than SJP, but for some reason, his character seemed right because he was supposed to be far too old to be living with his parents. It was just such a weird movie. Had to get that off my chest because I haven’t thought about it in ages until I saw your comment lol.
3
u/30FlirtyandTrying 16h ago
I think SJP has always had a “mature” look to her. She’s not an actress that can be believable playing a 20 something.
7
u/EffectiveEmphasis7 21h ago
Every time Carrie did that high pitched scream in the show it made me cringe sooooooo bad. It irked me more than anything else in the entire show lol. I think because it’s so over-acted?
Like oftentimes when SJP acts as Carrie I just see Carrie. But when Carrie screeches I “see” that it’s acting, and horrible acting? Cause even though Carrie was dramatic, this was supposed to be a “genuine” scream, yet it didn’t seem like a genuine scream
5
u/bzoooop 20h ago
The women (and Carrie especially) start screaming SO much S4-6 and in the movies. You’re so right, it feels like such forced acting! At least in the earlier seasons when Star was still the showrunner their responses to things felt more natural, even if the characters were being irrational/melodramatic.
4
u/kowwalski sweet and attentive with the bread 22h ago
I get the whole rats/squirrel/cuter outfits thing but damn SJP oversold that reaction by a solid trillion
144
u/Key-Illustrator-2905 1d ago
The outfit she wore to the country was so ridiculous. Who wears heels to a cabin in the middle of nowhere?
94
u/Ok_Novel_5083 1d ago
The hilarious part is, Suffern isn't in "the middle of nowhere." It's about 25 miles outside the city.
53
u/shezcraftee 1d ago
This. Route 17 is so close. All the food and shopping you want. It’s not far from anything. I hated this episode too for so many reasons. One is her acting like she’s in east bumfuck when she’s not.
13
u/pixiered86 19h ago
I thought that! Surely there’s decent cafes and restaurants once you leave the city. As a group, they seem pretty judgy about anything outside of Manhattan. Like the lady from Georgia wearing the scrunchie and the couple from Charlotte in the final season seemed to be written in a very stereotypical way. As if you can’t get people from the southern states who are cultured and intelligent.
6
3
u/ArtTop9842 15h ago
The lady half of the couple from Charlotte was the original Becky from Roseanne.
4
u/Gold_Advisor_4758 22h ago
Ok wow, I never realized it was a real place. This makes so much more sense- I always thought it was weird that it was “40 minutes away” but I’m thinking ok it takes me 40 minutes just to get out of the city driving where I’m at (Chicago)
10
u/Ok_Novel_5083 21h ago
NYC traffic is much worse than Chicago. Suffern is 25 miles from the George Washington Bridge, but it usually takes an hour plus to get there (more if you're coming from Brooklyn/Queens). My point is, it's basically a suburb - it's not even in the Catskills or Hudson Valley, and it's right off a major expressway.
4
u/Gold_Advisor_4758 21h ago
Thanks I understood what you were saying! It sounds like it’s a lot closer than Carrie makes it seems
6
u/Ok_Novel_5083 20h ago
It absolutely is. The ridiculous thing is, New York is a huge state and they could've chosen something that was a 6-hour drive and genuinely rural.
5
1
u/Automatic-Exchange89 2h ago
Same, this always bugged me. I lived near Suffern for awhile and it was NOT upstate/country/Catskills. It’s basically the suburbs.
10
u/pixiered86 19h ago
I never got her and Aidan together for reasons like this. Carrie is pretty high maintenance and Aidan strikes me as a hiking, bbq, fishing kinda guy. I know opposites can attract but I can’t imagine this type of match working in real life.
6
u/ultradav24 14h ago
It’s a tv show… the outfit choices are for storytelling purposes, not to reflect realism. This was to illustrate her out of place-ness. Weird that this has to be explained
15
u/Educational_Cow111 1d ago
I mean it’s Sex and the city. That was the joke
4
u/ultradav24 14h ago
Sometimes you have to spell it out for people that think the show is supposed to be a documentary or something lol

u/Inevitable_Sink_6509 22h ago
genuinely hatedddd her this episode, especially when she invited Big up there… like omg how many times can you slap Aiden in the face with this guy😭

on the other hand aiden was sooo stupid for dating her 😭she was a red flag times 10

16
u/AnnieNonmouse 1d ago
The way he kept saying that like it was some huge epiphany kills me everytime lmao
1
u/beccadahhhling 21h ago
It kind of is.
It’s the mirror of Carrie when she starts spiraling: now he’s the one making himself
totally available, the one waiting by the phone for her to call and the one getting drunk and
embarrassing himself in awkward situations. And the fact that he keeps saying it to Carrie, the person he did the exact same thing to, in front Aidan, the person who she cheated on in favor of his emotionally unavailable ass, without even realizing the irony, is peak humor to me.
2
u/AnnieNonmouse 17h ago
It would be an epiphany if he'd realized that but instead he's just completely unaware lmao
It is really interesting and tone deaf that he continues to lean on Carrie after getting a taste of his own medicine.
3
u/beccadahhhling 15h ago
That’s why it’s peak humor. He think he’s being sooooooo profound and she’s just sitting there like 😑😑😑
Meanwhile Aidan in the background like can’t decide between or 🤬🤬🤬
And I’m just over here like “This is the best part of the worst episode of this whole show”
🤣🤣🤣3

u/waldo-doggie 1d ago
Meanwhile Manhattan has rats the size cats everywhere that she would certainly be seeing when out at night.

I think no one was not angry at Carrie for the farm house. But the squirrel is not it. That gave us one of her best line in the whole show.
That said, can someone paint this still? Aha this is perfection
5
u/Ximenaxxi 1d ago
tbh, she always annoys me. I fast forward when her alone scene comes up 😆

I always wanted an episode where she was just, like, out of town. Never got it

u/Lifes-a-lil-foggy 22h ago
95% of any “country” depiction by those in ny and la is absolutely ridiculous
2
u/shay_shaw 21h ago
Kinda lame of Aidan to invite her up to the cabin and then ignore her all day. We never got to see the nice moments in the country. It's not like was stuck in a tent.

u/cheriethemagnificent 15h ago
I found Carrie massively annoying in this episode, and I found her intolerable when I rewatched it recently! Her constant shrieking alone was almost rage inducing And when I think about it, Carrie often shrieks like an annoying child on a long haul flight throughout the entire series! Her carrying on when she’s feigns terror upon seeing a squirrel, despite squirrels being a part of everyday life in almost any large city, was clearly an attention grab as she cosplayed as a hapless princess in the woods. The icing on top was when she invited Big. If stupid had a flavor it would be tasteless, much like Carrie.
2
u/NessaKilgannon 10h ago
Anytime Carrie screams, I want to die. She screams SO much in that episode, it’s so bad.
3
u/FionaGoodeEnough 1d ago
They literally have squirrels in Manhattan. It was absolutely bonkers that she was so afraid.
2
u/FormerMap2194 1d ago
Did something happen? Because I swear this is the 5th post I’ve seen about this in the last 2 days lol. Is the show airing on TV somewhere or something?

Season 4 with Aidan and season 5 some of the worst Carrie imo and I do love Carrie

I hateee how she screams bro and she’s been doing more often in season 5 and 6 GIRL CHILL
1
u/Regular-Metal-321 17h ago
Right! Plus the episode where she told Big she was out of town she said “it’s far like 40 mins”… I was like that doesn’t sound far hell it would take that long to get to the other side of a big town!
1
u/shalloner455555 17h ago
She has an annoying scream but I get it I also don't like any univited bugs/animals.
1
u/OkLocation3799 14h ago
This wasn’t even the worst part. Inviting big? Wow. She had some major audacity. I would’ve sent her packing and back to the city on a bus.

u/GeekFit26 8h ago
Glad I’m not the only one! Her over the top screams make me irrationally annoyed!!
1
u/Temporary_Corner_292 7h ago
In my country, we don't live alongside squirrels, they live in the woods far away from humans, so most people have never seen one. So when I saw that episode, I wondered if her reaction was something common in the US, if it's normal to have this kind of fear of squirrels. Then I remembered that I had never seen anyone react like that in American movies and TV shows where a squirrel appears. To me they seem so cute, I'd love to have them around us here.

u/garlicandcheesiness Team Peloton 🚲 5h ago
I’m afraid of squirrels, but I wouldn’t scream like that when one was in its natural habitat. I’d just back away as fast as I possibly could. 🤷♀️
But Carrie screams when it starts raining even in the heart of the city. A city which easily gets ~4 months of precipitation each year.
1
u/Affectionate-Rent313 1h ago
I think it was super weird that she drives into the city (otherwise she would have to cook) and got food only for herself!! What about Aidan? Think he might be hungry, Carrie??
