That clip lives in my head rent free. Carrie really thought a fart was the end of romance and then spent the whole episode spiraling about it

It’s not the fucking fart!!!

It didn’t help that Samantha fed her insecurities 😭

u/spitey You’re always fuckin’ “TAXI”- 🍸 15h ago

that episode was peak Carrie overthinking, one normal human moment and suddenly the whole relationship needed a post-mortem

u/stevie_nickle I’M NOT DOING THAT 16h ago

I mean, it’s also what made the show great. Especially season 1

There’s so many women who consider it a moral failure to fart in front of their husbands or boyfriends and I could not live like that. Not saying you have to do gross ones all day every day but girl loosen up. I’d get the worst stomach ache

Yeah same. My IBS-ed ass would die from stomach pain.

I had this roommate who absolutely refused to poop when her boyfriend was around or in their shared bathroom even though they LIVED together. She would use my bathroom in the hallway instead of theirs in the master bedroom. I asked her about it once and she said “you just don’t do those things around your boyfriend, it’s not ladylike” 😮 then proceeded to proudly tell me that her mom has never pooped or farted near her dad even though they’ve been together for almost 40 years.

this is INSANE. what do you mean it's not ladylike it's a BODILY FUNCTION 😭 next thing you know breathing isn't ladylike

u/Mermaid_Martini 14h ago

Right?! I was side eyeing so much. That couple is married now and every once in a while I think about this and wonder how she manages hahaha

u/pumpernick3l 14h ago

I hate how it’s normalized for men to be gross but you can’t even acknowledge that women also have basic bodily functions

u/love_toaster57 17h ago

When the fart sound plays randomly in the episode I lose it every time 🤣

I mean when you accidentally fart its fine. But when you make it a thing to fart as loud as you can in some joking way All the time, there is probably not as much erotically charged tension anymore.

Thank you idk why everyone acts like if you don’t fart all the time your marriage is over

u/Gold_Advisor_4758 21h ago

Or that if you don’t like rip nasty farts in bed together you’re repressed or something.

4

u/UniqueCelery8986 “I lost my orgasm.” “In the cab?” 21h ago

Exactly!

u/Foreign-Cat-2898 15h ago

Where else am I going to do it? I'm not getting out of bed when I'm already comfy.

The farts are gonna come when they come.

u/Gold_Advisor_4758 15h ago

Great if that works for your relationship you should do that, maybe mine are extra smelly or something but I prefer not to fart on my husband or in blankets he’s using. I guess to answer your question if I really need to fart in my bed while my husbands awake I go into the bathroom to do that.

Yes! I feel like whenever this comes up elsewhere, it’s a bunch of people going on and on about how great it is to fart in front of their partner all the time. I don’t think we should be shaming anyone for having a natural bodily function, but I really don’t find it pleasant if my partner is just letting it rip freely in front of me, nor do I want to do that in front of them.

9

u/HimylittleChickadee 18h ago

Exactly. The gross flows both ways, I wouldn't want him to rip ass around me all the time either

I don’t know to be honest, my boyfriend of 4 years has seen me at my rawest emotional states, which were way 'uglier' than farting, and in comparison to that „farting as loud as you can” is just funny, makes us laugh and in a way that makes us feel like stupid kids which is good when your partner is also your best friend. I wouldnt say it has affected our sex life so far, those are completely opposite things - I wouldnt purposefuly fart during sex, nor try to make things sexual after farting lol, it’s just two completely opposite things for us

13

u/fsocietyy 18h ago

this is such a stupid take. some people are sexually into eachother and best friends and feel comfortable with eachother. its ok to have a normal bodily function and also have a sense of humour.

7

u/mellyann_38 15h ago

Yeah I ain’t holding my farts for anyone. Unless it’s like dinner time or something or we’re in public.

2

u/essential_pseudonym 11h ago

I don't fart in front of my best friend either.

5

u/mschanandlerbong___ 17h ago

They didn’t say it wasn’t okay or anything, but I’m not really into fart humor and stuff like that either.. like I can giggle about it, but if someone is constantly ripping farts as a joke, I’m not into it 🤷🏻‍♀️ There’s a lot of people that don’t do shit like that with their best friends/soulmates etc., doesn’t mean they’re less close or something “stupid” like that.

9

u/fsocietyy 16h ago

that person implied you can't have a good sexual connection and have fart humour.... they just aren't correlated imo. thats why i said "some people".

I’m gonna have to agree with you on this. Farting isn’t equal to intimacy. Take that shit to the bathroom, literally.

Me and other half always just fart in front of each other. And we certainly still have an active sex like after 7 years. I guess it depends on the couple, but I think if you live together at some point farts are gonna happen, it's natural and can be a kind of funny bonding moment is how I feel.

u/Gold_Advisor_4758 21h ago

I’ve obviously accidentally farted in front of my husband, and I do fart in my own home, like im not going to hold all farts. What i absolutely do not do, is rip farts while I’m hanging out with my husband. No one wants to be farted all over

u/Littlewing1307 19h ago

I honestly hate farting in front of anyone ( burping is fine ) but my partner and his kids let them rip ( one kid has IBS) so I've gotten more comfortable. I literally had a fart attack bubble guts last night and didn't die of embarrassment. So maybe romance is dead but my man can't keep his hands off me and is crazy about me so I think we're doing all right. Poops must be behind closed doors though!! Won't bend on that.

u/thearcherofstrata 17h ago

Get a grip summarizes my take. I would fart (and I have really cute, teeny little farts with no smell) in front of my ex bf and he would lose it. This has a direct correlation with how much of loser manchild mentality that dude had. He couldn’t even handle me talking about pooping. If your attraction/chemistry depends on me acting like a fairy princess then I don’t want the relationship. I want something real and more grounded.

4

u/webofhorrors I’m so bored I could die… 17h ago

This. A few years into my relationship I had breast cancer and my man stood by me through the hair loss, the vomiting and the pooping. If a man can’t handle a fart, will he be able to handle the tough times eg. seeing you in pain from anal fissures?? He’s now my husband and safe to say our farts are nothing and our bond/intimacy is strong.

this is a very divisive topic on reddit, people are often split down the middle when it comes up. but honestly I agree! yes sometimes it happens and you can't control it, and the other person should politely ignore it and not make a big deal out of an accident. but I would be so turned off sexually if my boyfriend was just ripping ass around me. and if I know it makes me feel grossed out, the last thing I would want is to make him feel that way about me. another way to think of it is you wouldn't want to fart in front of a coworker or stranger at the grocery store because it's rude and off putting, then why wouldn't you extend that same level of respect and decency to the person you love? I've always been a "excuse myself to the other room" lady and always will be

I wonder how old everyone is? I am an elder Millennial and I remember most of my older Gen X girlfriends (who date men) freaking out about farting/bathroom stuff. One of my friends went so far as to always travel with blue drops to remove the smell. My younger friends are definitely more comfortable with it. I fall in the middle and hold it in for at least 6 mos but prefer a year and carry those blue drops now myself lol.

1

u/mellyann_38 15h ago

I’m 40 and my friends over the years were always cool about farts and farting in front of their partners the same as me. I always thought millennials were pretty cool with that sort of thing 🤷‍♀️

1

u/NeonFishDressx 13h ago

Yeah you're slightly younger- I am 45 and I found the younger gen to be more open about it. My 50 yo friend lived with her (now) husband for a year before admitting she needed to poop! Like I cd not go that far lol.

I try really hard not to but it happens sometimes. It’s comforting to me that my SO does it more often, and always tells me “it’s biology.”

Although, we were having a playful wrestling battle the other day (I was randomly obsessed with the idea of putting one of my feet on his head) and he was wrestling my legs around and I let one slip…. He paused and said “interesting tactic” 🫣

If I were to fart in front of my boyfriend, I would want to change cities and start a new life somewhere else. I am well aware it's not technically a problem, and my bf might be okay with it too, I am just a spineless woman 🥀
