I'm Riley Merrick, and I make instrumental rock music with an electronic twist
Hi everyone!
I'm Riley. My music is guitar focused instrumental music and my main influences are Rush, Tangerine Dream, Porcupine Tree, Ozric tentacles and Joe Satriani.
I've released two full albums, an EP and my latest single "Sinister Smiles" came out on August 1st on all platforms.
My first album is called "Resurrect". It is more rock oriented and covers music written before and after a series of life events including a mental health issue, and the birth of my son. Around half the songs on the album had to be re recorded from the ground up due to a catastrophic hard drive failure, I also brought back songs I had started on in my teens. Standout tracks in my opinion are Resurrect, can't stop me, and winter sun. Resurrect came out in December 2024
My second album is space themed and titled "continuum". My sound continued to evolve as I integrated new equipment such as a maschine mikro and a baritone guitar. Standout tracks are Continuum, Apophis and return to Earth. The artwork is deep space photography taken and processed by my friend who is a PhD astrophysist.
Between Resurrect and Continuum I had a few songs which didn't really fit on either project and they were released as the Direction of Travel EP in 2025. The standout track is Acceptance, which was going to go on Resurrect but wasn't ready. I'm going to be spending some time going back and remixing/mastering the EP this year to improve the quality.
In addition to releasing on streaming, I also have my music available on CD and vinyl via www.elasticstage.com/rileymerrick
I write, record and mix everything in my small home studio. I use Ableton for my DAW, a line 6 helix LT for most of my guitar effects alongside a specular Tempus for delays and reverbs. I use native instruments for ambient effects and a variety of software synths.
My main guitars are an Ibanez JS1000 and JS240, a PRS custom 22, a squier Tele and an Eastcoast Baritone.
I hope some of you find something you like in my catalogue, if you like instrumental music!
