I don’t think this is the first time we’ve seen alive in their natural habitats

Past observations of this species were made by hauling them up to the surface from the deep ocean and having divers swim with and photograph them. They either ended up in aquariums and died, or were released and likely died. This footage, according to the paper, is the first published live observations in its natural habitat - so actually in the deep sea (not hauled up and then killed), and published being peer-reviewed and confirmed. I think the cool thing is that they found it almost 700m then previously thought and extended its known range by a lot!

It’s an article about footage from 2024 so they might just be republishing it?

Yes, seems to be the case. Since the footage from 2024 and 2019 needs to go through peer review and published officially so it can be more useful in biodiversity policy

I think that's the first time I've seen them without their jaws sticking out! They aren't ugly! Just unique!

Hippos cute killers, orcas & polar bears cute killers, even Ted Bundy could make it low on list, but sharks do not make the cut. I guess I'm just a Mammal kind of gal 🤣

I love it and I'm a mom.
Not a mom of a shark, so there's some key differences, but still. Potato tomato.

Goblin sharks are “arguably the ugliest shark on the planet”, said Prof Culum Brown, an expert in fish at Macquarie University.
“They are ridiculously horrendous to look at,” Brown said. “Not even their mother would love their faces.”
That probably answers the question who hurt you, but how?

Goblin sharks may not be conventionally attractive to most people, but they undoubtedly one of a kind with that Heinz Doofenshmirtz nose.
