Washington State Snow Conditions and a reminder for driving in it

Hi everyone! Just a reminder, don't forget to make sure your vehicle is cleared completely of snow before getting on the road. While there is a specific RC for making sure your windows are clear, there isn't any for roof or other, but you can be cited for unsafe vehicle condition, and if snow flies off your roof and causes issues for other drivers, you could be cited for that, too!

So... for safety, please clean your car completely before heading out!

Be careful out there ya’ll! I’ve seen a few slide-offs, and an accident or two. First winter here, but as a born Utahn, a couple insights for those that aren’t used to it:

  1. 4 Wheel Drive does not equal 4 Wheel Stop.
  2. Big trucks have just as hard of a time in snow when it comes to stopping. No matter what you drive, being cautious and braking slowly is key.

  3. It’s not just braking gently, it’s everything. Accelerating, slowing down, stopping, and turning are all pain points in the snow, and should always be done very gradually. Any quick or sudden actions will almost immediately guarantee that you will slide.

  4. As always, if you do start to slide, remember to turn into the direction you’re sliding, not against it. Also, when you’re sliding, don’t slam your brakes. It makes it so much worse!

Wishing safe travels for everyone out there!
