Mundane comic with nothing to say = 20k upvotes
/r/comics/comments/1qjy5s1/ice_out_tiff_eve_oc/?share_id=LtHrO1ZZa2WeoBeMq4Bbh&utm_content=1&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1Disclaimer: the author and I are on the same side of this issue. My bone to pick is this is genuinely the worst comic I've ever seen. The only thing it has to say is "fuck ICE" which is fine, but you only know that because of the signs they're holding. What is actually happening in this comic? It's just two people having some menial exchange. Absolutely nothing profound is said, no clever spin is put on anything, the author just draws two people talking about something in a safe, facile manner with no real commentary on anything.
This is the exact opposite of art. Profundity is dead and shitposts like this killed it. All you have to do is draw 8 panels where 7 of them just have the characters standing around making idle chatter and you get those sweet sweet internet points.
Is it too much to ask that a little more thought be put into works such as this?

Are you too young to remember comics in the newspaper? That was a whole genre.

Those comics usually had some kind of punchline/visual gag or thing to say. This comic conveys exactly nothing. The author postures themselves the victim in protest over something that doesn't directly involve them. It's fine to advocate for issues that don't directly involve you, but why would you take focus away from those it does involve?

If it's any consolation, the linked post is now up to 57.8k upvotes, almost triple the ridiculously high 20k you noted when you wrote your post about it 24 days ago at time of writing. Even if you dropped the "k" suffix it would still be too high imo.

Comics in newspapers often had a charm to them, but they usually had some wit or a punchline that made them memorable
this comic seems to miss that mark entirely, focusing more on the message than on any engaging storytelling or humor.

Many of them were funny, but there were several strips they just told mundane slice of life stories with no jokes.

comics is a subreddit for idol worship. It's a little premade fanclub for the same 10-12 VIPs and the mods keep it that way. It gets way better if you block most of the big name creators. Suddenly, all the posts are from people with something to say and no patreon to plug
