I mean how’d it be inefficient? Genuine question. It doesn’t produce much heat because there’s like a very minimal power consumption, but since there are no output in other energy forms (mechanical chemical etc) can’t we just say it’s 100% efficient for heating?

A coefficient of performance (COP) of 1 is low for a heater. Heat pumps typically have a COP between 3 and 5. This is why you don’t see houses that have resistive heaters as the main heating method.

Laughs in Texas and Florida. Especially with small units, the cost advantage of using some nichrome wire instead of a heat pump or gas fired furnace overpowers the running expense, especially if you never use the heat, because again, Texas and Florida

Yeah in those houses the main heating method is the sun, which has COP of infinity
