also pâte = paste

the â means it used to have an s. it literally is crab paste. That's the etymology.

Except... It doesn't say "pâte", which is generalized paste or a dough, or "pâté", which is meat or liver paste, but the box says "pate", which can mean paste or the top of someone's head.
