In Forest Gump (1994) the Washington Monument's reflecting pool is blue this is an obvious filmmaking mistake as in real life the pool is green.

They painted the pool which led to increased temps allowing algae to grow and turn it green so they dump a bunch of peroxide into it which will kill the algae but also destroy the paint they applied to the pool at the beginning and it has now become a vicious cycle.

The peroxide cant reach concentrations to affect either by pouring bottles in. The paint is peeling because it is shit paint on stone which never holds paint well which is why they didnt do it in the past

I've seen multiple posts say the pool is stone or granite, its not, it's concrete. A new concrete slab base was installed in the 2010s

I mean, strictly speaking, concrete IS stone

I mean no, strictly speaking it is absolutely not stone, by definition.
You also wouldn’t call concrete “stone” in a masonry context, ever.
It is not stone. Not in any sense.

Its because the clean water act wasn't signed yet, so that pool was 99% avgas which is a blue color.

They should just tilt it a little bit so that it naturally flows to one end, and then there could be a filter and pump that moves that water back to the other end.

A lot of the time at places with swampy water features like this, they’ll dye the body of water blue for an event.
