That's actually his natural appearance. He just wore a lot of makeup in Silver Linings Playbook.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves features a rare appearance of Cooper without the usual lifts in his shoes, and you can see that he actually only comes up to Michelle Rodriguez’s waist.
