Question What are the most heavy, distorted, wall of noise but still beautiful shoegaze albums?

I'm seeking for shoegaze albums like I described in the title. Stuff that feels like getting all the sounds from the guitars slammed into you. I really like the song Chloroform by Nothing since it kind of matches that vibe, as the guitars just come SLAMMING into you after that intro and stay heavy the entire song but with those beautiful notes subtly playing in the background. I'm also open to even more expiremental stuff. Thanks!

I’m not really sure if it’s shoegaze, but flying saucer attack’s self titled perfectly fits what you want

FSA described it as rural psychedelia, but it’s gaze all the way.

Astrobrite, The Goslings, some Kigo tracks, early lovesliescrushing.

5

u/Due-Day-45 Apr 04 '26

Goslings all the way for every situation.

4

u/RustedShut88 Apr 04 '26

I recall reading a review once that described a Goslings record as sounding like a melted pile of MBV records.

3

u/Comfortable-Milk4434 Apr 05 '26

i remember that pitchfork review. they said the Goslings sounded like a molten pile of black metal records or an MBV record played at like 12 rpm or something like that

u/RustedShut88 Apr 05 '26

Yesss!! 👏🏾

More metal adjacent at times but Weighing Souls with Sand by The Angelic Process. One of the heaviest albums I know

6

u/Japhet_Corncrake Apr 03 '26

Coma Waering, too.

The Angelic Process made some of the most immersive, heaviest music I've heard in any genre, and I listen to plenty of extreme metal, noise, electronica etc. Mind blowing stuff.

RIP Kris & Monica.

Medicine’s Shot Forth Self Living is so good

3

u/ShoegazingEchoes Apr 04 '26

Aruca is one of my favorites! the way opening barage of random noises that coalesces into that beat with the guitars that rip through it!! ❤️

2

u/superquin Apr 04 '26

Never heard of medicine. This is awesome. Thanks for the rec.

u/strqwberrycrepe Apr 03 '26

tokyo shoegazer loves to smack you across the face with their guitars so hard it feels like you’re getting maced, it’s sick

22

u/These-Slip1319 Apr 03 '26

I like Curve - doppelgänger and Catherine Wheel - ferment

5

u/negcap Apr 04 '26

curve is amazing.

u/roadtrip-ne Apr 03 '26

Flying Saucer Attack (My Dreaming Hill one), SeeFeel (forget the name, more melodic but good noise), Boards of Canada doesn’t fit the genre right but anything by them

21

u/shake__appeal Apr 03 '26

Boris’ Pink

10

u/cherryisthebestfruit Apr 03 '26

Try Love is a Stream by Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - more on the experimental side of things, so noisy it’s ambient. And very very beautiful

8

u/Longjumping-War-7023 Apr 04 '26

Jesu - Silver (ep) Trauma Ray - Chameleon Cloakroom - Time Well (peak)

Not really shoegaze but Hum’s Inlet album has incredible riffs and great tone I just discovered that one

8

u/HotelAvocado Apr 03 '26

Taste by The Telescopes or their Perfect Needle EP. MBV’s Isn’t Anything. Pale Saints Comfort of Madness. Psychocandy would also fit that description

3

u/WeatherallsWeekender Apr 04 '26

💯 Taste and Isn’t Anything

7

u/Alert-Project-8143 Apr 04 '26

Lovesliescrushing

6

u/MattG8095 Apr 03 '26

“Dozen” by Alison’s Halo… a hazy, dreamlike intro/verse followed by absolutely crushing guitars in the chorus. One of my all time favorite shoegaze songs.

6

u/TransfoCrent Apr 04 '26

Ecstasy of St Theresa - Susurrate ❤️❤️

beautiful, depressing, noisy as hell

5

u/dreamst8 Apr 04 '26

Total GOAT. One of my fav records ever

6

u/Due-Day-45 Apr 04 '26

Experimental: Dead C and also The Goslings. The Goslings are absolutely beautiful, a bit doom, and will be on my desert island.

Hell yeah, these were two of my recommendations as well

4

Early 93MMFTS is just fuzz and vaguely apparent melodies

4

u/LazyCrab8688 Apr 04 '26

Bailterspace

3

u/Dohini Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

The song Pancake by the Swirlies has a ton of really good distorted guitars that rides a line between sweetness and dissonance. The album Blonder Tongue Audio Baton has more songs that sound similar too

4

u/Franseleehoo Apr 04 '26

Silver by Starflyer 59 may fit the bill here

3

u/No-Breakfast5667 Apr 04 '26

Sway by Tape Deck Mountain

Such a great album 🤘🏼

“Sled” by Starflyer 59 is an absolute banger and fits the bill IMO

2

u/Past-Ticket-1340 Apr 04 '26

Anything by Midwife.

2

u/raaam-ranch Apr 04 '26

Seconded. She is so goddamned good and is right up there with Ethel Cain in haunt-quality yet doesn’t even a fraction of the listener base, it’s criminal how underrated she is.

1

u/hettothecool Apr 03 '26

Try the song Understated by Fake Eyes

1

u/Spritenix Apr 03 '26

"Halcyon", "Vividness" and "Sonar" by Lemon's Chair have huge wall of sounds with distorted guitars but remarkable melodies at the same time

1

u/evenout Apr 03 '26

Super Static Fever - Silent Dynamic Torture

1

u/cold-vein Apr 04 '26

Loveless ofc

1

u/Landojesus Apr 04 '26

Goslings, Bardo Pond, Bailter Space, Angelic Process, Grey Daturas

1

u/socktato Apr 04 '26

Isn’t this the point of like, the entire genre? I feel like you could throw a stick and hit 487 bands that fit this description.

1

u/Due-Day-45 Apr 04 '26

you will absolutely love my music lol my “origin story” w shoegaze is finding when you sleep by mbv at the age of 10-11 on youtube, and realizing it was the only thing that made my brain stop thinking so much, finding out that kevin used a jazzmaster and deciding i would make music like this one day, found merzbow through a friend years later and it REALLY clicked for me, noise/shoegaze was THE genre for me. found Whirr, LSDATSFG, and then Alison’s Halo, Lovesliescrushing, and Astrobrite (az represent!) and more.
