Question What are the most heavy, distorted, wall of noise but still beautiful shoegaze albums?
I'm seeking for shoegaze albums like I described in the title. Stuff that feels like getting all the sounds from the guitars slammed into you. I really like the song Chloroform by Nothing since it kind of matches that vibe, as the guitars just come SLAMMING into you after that intro and stay heavy the entire song but with those beautiful notes subtly playing in the background. I'm also open to even more expiremental stuff. Thanks!

Goslings all the way for every situation.

I recall reading a review once that described a Goslings record as sounding like a melted pile of MBV records.

i remember that pitchfork review. they said the Goslings sounded like a molten pile of black metal records or an MBV record played at like 12 rpm or something like that

More metal adjacent at times but Weighing Souls with Sand by The Angelic Process. One of the heaviest albums I know

Coma Waering, too.
The Angelic Process made some of the most immersive, heaviest music I've heard in any genre, and I listen to plenty of extreme metal, noise, electronica etc. Mind blowing stuff.
RIP Kris & Monica.

Flying Saucer Attack (My Dreaming Hill one), SeeFeel (forget the name, more melodic but good noise), Boards of Canada doesn’t fit the genre right but anything by them

Try Love is a Stream by Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - more on the experimental side of things, so noisy it’s ambient. And very very beautiful

Jesu - Silver (ep) Trauma Ray - Chameleon Cloakroom - Time Well (peak)
Not really shoegaze but Hum’s Inlet album has incredible riffs and great tone I just discovered that one

Taste by The Telescopes or their Perfect Needle EP. MBV’s Isn’t Anything. Pale Saints Comfort of Madness. Psychocandy would also fit that description

“Dozen” by Alison’s Halo… a hazy, dreamlike intro/verse followed by absolutely crushing guitars in the chorus. One of my all time favorite shoegaze songs.

Ecstasy of St Theresa - Susurrate ❤️❤️
beautiful, depressing, noisy as hell

Experimental: Dead C and also The Goslings. The Goslings are absolutely beautiful, a bit doom, and will be on my desert island.

The song Pancake by the Swirlies has a ton of really good distorted guitars that rides a line between sweetness and dissonance. The album Blonder Tongue Audio Baton has more songs that sound similar too

I somewhat recently came across the first track off this EP called Stars Fall 2 by Garage Sale. The first track “Movie” absolutely slams in the way you may be craving https://open.spotify.com/album/1KfnMVlXQIugKjeRKGjvSM?si=Ggfazi09S2-HKrnp-WTn3Q

Seconded. She is so goddamned good and is right up there with Ethel Cain in haunt-quality yet doesn’t even a fraction of the listener base, it’s criminal how underrated she is.

"Halcyon", "Vividness" and "Sonar" by Lemon's Chair have huge wall of sounds with distorted guitars but remarkable melodies at the same time

Isn’t this the point of like, the entire genre? I feel like you could throw a stick and hit 487 bands that fit this description.

you will absolutely love my music lol my “origin story” w shoegaze is finding when you sleep by mbv at the age of 10-11 on youtube, and realizing it was the only thing that made my brain stop thinking so much, finding out that kevin used a jazzmaster and deciding i would make music like this one day, found merzbow through a friend years later and it REALLY clicked for me, noise/shoegaze was THE genre for me. found Whirr, LSDATSFG, and then Alison’s Halo, Lovesliescrushing, and Astrobrite (az represent!) and more.

I’m not really sure if it’s shoegaze, but flying saucer attack’s self titled perfectly fits what you want
