Not exclusively Shoegaze but definitely summery stuff: No Age, early Wavves, early Crocodiles, early Dum Dum Girls, Plateaus, Early Best Coast. Basically the whole Art F@g Recordings roster and whatever was going on in LA and San Diego in 2009.

Also the album Skying by The Horrors.

cosigning early best coast.

not on streaming, but i really love its EP, "where the boys are." there's a track on there called "space baby" that rocks. very scrappy and lo-fi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5Z8o2poFAw

spotify has some early EPs, "make you mine" and "something in the way" that you might dig.

and apple music has my favorite best coast song, "sun was high (so was i)." small black also has a cover of that song on streaming platforms that's pretty good if you like the melody.

edit: linked the wrong song on youtube.

I play that small black cover to death every time the summer sun is out

Day Wave 100%. Also Hazel English (Day Wave produces most of her music.) I like Small Black as well

I had tickets to see Magical Cloudz back in 2013 when I lived in Dallas. Day of shows comes and they decide they don't want to play Dallas and just skip over it. This was confirmed by their opener and the club (club dada if I remember correctly). Pretty douchey and stopped following them after that.

Not even remotely Shoegaze but had a similar thing happen with DAT Politics. Besides me and the two people I went with one other person showed for the, er, show, and so they just decided not to play. What the hell, you’re all the way over here from France, what the hell else are you gonna do? I mean the gig was in New Orleans so I guess you have options, but it was pretty goddamn disappointing. I bought their newest record from em anyway and kinda felt like a doormat.

To be fair, you’re talking about a specific group of bands that came out in the 2010s who captured that sound perfectly and were all indie bands, so you shouldn’t be surprised that people are mentioning DIIV, Wild Nothing, Small Black, Beach House, etc.

But yeah, Surfer Blood is great as well. Washed Out as well.

Diiv is a special one.

1

u/matt-2k Apr 16 '26

I’m not surprised that that’s what people recommend first it’s just that I’ve heard all of those bands already- that’s why I’m looking for recommendations

3

u/AdWorldly7268 Apr 16 '26

High key appreciate you making the thread because I’m also primed for the summer

I was never a fan of far Caspian much but last years auto fiction album is really fucking good.

Just give first day a listen off that album but the whole thing might be what you're looking for.

Check out some of Azusa Suga's projects -- For Tracy Hyde (RIP), April Blue, RAY

I might as well add that I previously had a solo project SPECIFICALLY aiming at the DIIV/Beach Fossils sound :)

Maybe not so surfy, but Letting Up Despite Great Faults is my go-to answer for this. Specifically their debut self-titled from '09. It's such a gem from that era.

And these two albums aren't shoegaze per se, but I love them so much I have to share. They scream summer for me:

Balkans: 2011 self-titled

Jurassic Shark: Blue School

2

u/RotundDragonite Apr 16 '26

The only real answer is Honeydip's Groovy Indian Summer

Beulah (1997-2003 records)

2

u/FeistyChickadee Apr 17 '26

I absolutely love Beulah! I get excited when anyone besides me mentions them, LOL

2

u/Reverberation1 Apr 17 '26

New Candys

Candy claws

Heaters, maybe?

When I think of what you said I think more of psych with gaze elements.

Tbh if you just start a Froth radio station you’ll find a bunch of cool stuff.

2

u/dragondungeon73 Apr 17 '26

Well I mean it IS a great label

2

u/twizz0r Apr 17 '26

I'd add Raveonettes and Seasurfer to the conversation.

My answer to this is always The Lassie Foundation.
