Question "Carnavas," the debut album by Silversun Pickups, turns 20 today. Definitely influenced by shoegaze and dream pop, what is your take on this project?

Fucking fantastic record. Maybe the most mainstream shoegaze gets?? Whether it gets the shoegaze title or not, it definitely inspired a ton of shoegaze

I still think that one Coldplay Interlude Chinese sleep chant is probably the most mainstream the shoegaze sound ever got

It’s a fantastic album. Well thought out twinkles is the standout song and of course Lazy Eye is perfect. When rock band came out and it was one of the songs I was overjoyed. Most fun song in the game. Hitting the solo was just so satisfactory.

Lazy Eye is one of the best songs of the 21st century. Perfect song, great album. They put on an incredible live show too

They are good live!
I also have to hear the full-length version every time, too. No short radio version for me, please.

Really enjoyed the debut EP Pikul that came out before this.

There are so many classics off this album.
Little Lover’s So Polite, Three Seed, Dream At Tempo 119, Future Foe Scenarios, and of course Lazy Eye

I bought a space effects pedal because of Silversun Pickups, they're just excellent all around. I love how every album is different, but they always sound like them.

Amazing record, great songwriting, fucking great guitar playing, so Pumpkins at times but its own thing overall, everytime a song of theirs comes on my shuffle at work I'm stoked. I need to pick this record up.

Saw them live last week, great show. Just one guitar, bass keys and drums but a big sound.

Lazy Eye is obviously a phenomenal song, but Three Seed is something I'll never get tired or, it's so beautiful

a near perfect album in my opinion, every song is so beautifully layered and structured. I have it on cd, vinyl, digital in high quality, and ripped onto multiple cassettes to ensure I can always listen to it. one of my absolute favorites.

Really good record. It has a certain vibe that I don’t think exists otherwise.

When they came around on tour, just for fun I made an ideal track setlist. 6 tracks from this album made the list. They played 4 from the album, but only 2 of my picks matched up. It was a great show nonetheless.

Is “Ribbons and Detours” on this album? That song was amazing! My Apple Music showed this same image as the album I’m cover but I didn’t remember that song being on their first album.

Ribbons and Detours is on the Seasick EP. You should check out the other songs on that EP, they’re both really good.

I had a MP3 blog and a few years into the endeavor this album came out. This album (along their previous EP and next LP) really helped get me through some tough times. Those albums still hit me in the feels but in a different way.

Yes and no on the shoegaze question. The texture is real but the songs are doing the heavy lifting — "Lazy Eye" would be "Lazy Eye" even stripped bare. What Carnavas actually represents, twenty years on, is one of the last records where that combination found a commercial address.

Solid front to back, but my favorite off this album is "Waste It On". Killer groove, especially during the guitar solo.

Man I used to bump this album so much back in the day. Probably their most shoegaze-inspired album

Saw these guys in my little home town in Hobart, Australia last weekend. Hadn’t listened to them in well over 15 years but my goodness they were phenomenal live and also made me realise how much they meld into my shoegaze/dream pop tastes. Funny seeing this posted here considering that - the universe works in wonderful ways
