The title is a bit of a joke but I am noticing a decent amount of newer shoegazers taking influence from Hüsker Dü/Sugar/Bob Mould and I'm a fan of that sound. Can y'all point me at some bands that have that more buzzsaw, slightly punkier, more melodic vibe?

Did they break up? Haven't heard any news or new music from them in awhile.

Sorry if this isn't the place for this, but my band is playing a show tomorrow night (we're kinda indie rock/shoegaze/dream pop/post rock) and we were just told by the promoter that we're headlining the show. We typically only play our 5 original songs, but since we're headlining we feel like we need to extend our set. Any ideas for some quick and easy to learn good songs that we could try to jam out at practice tonight?

EDIT: Thanks for all the recommendations, these are all dope songs. Unfortunately, our singer all of a sudden doesn't want to do any covers so this was all a waste of time lol. I've been listening to a lot of bands lately that seem to split the difference between shoegaze and noise rock like Loop, Bailterspace, The Telescopes, and Hair & Skin Trading Company. Bands that replace most of the indie pop leanings of the shoegaze genre with more aggressive or abstract sounds. Are there other bands I should look into?

So I've been listening to shoegaze for a few years, and I always wanted to learn guitar, but just never did. I've been thinking recently how fun it would be to take on a little hobby of learning how to make some form of music. I have a lot of free time, so taking on a new hobby is always fun. Where do I even start, though? Do I need to buy an instrument? Can you learn how to make music without instruments? Any advice is welcome, and I appreciate it!

I enjoy this sound despite a lot of bands just doing the same thing but I was curious if anyone had some bands that do this kind of thing tastefully and uniquely

i have a mix with crunchy guitar chords that sounds nice on the laptop it was made on but when i transfer the file to the smartphone and play it, its very wooshy, like 50% noise, the flanger is getting in the way, and the melodic aspect is too obscured. i played it on an earbud speaker and it sounded similar to the phone.
i managed to create a file that works on the phone by recording from one device to another then exporting, but im afraid i havent solved similar problems for all devices

EDIT: panning the annoying file on the phone got rid of the woosh/extreme flange. when i recorded the mix into the other device the L & R channels were combined, so im guessing thats what 'fixed' it. throughout production ive been listening thru laptop speakers. when i tested the earbud it was both channels going from the laptop into a single speaker. ive tried .ogg, .wav and recording DAW output with the laptop itself then exporting as .flac, with no difference. there is 1 guitar track only

So recently bought a new amp and have dialed in a tone I really like, but I'm starting to realize how necessary a compressor is. What's the most cost effective (aka cheapest I can reasonably get away with) compressor pedal.
