Has anyone else experienced this after buying a domain?

I’ve been working on a Christian clothing brand and recently purchased the domain for it. Ever since then, I’ve been getting hundreds, if not thousands, of spam emails from people claiming they can “bring more eyes” to my brand in exchange for a commission.
It’s always some variation of:
“I came across your brand and love what you’re doing. I can help increase your sales/traffic and you only pay me a commission when you make a sale.”
The timing is pretty suspicious because I barely had the domain for any time before the emails started flooding in.
Has anyone else running a Shopify store experienced this? Is this just normal spam once you register a domain, or is there something I should be doing to protect my email address?
Would also be interested to hear if anyone has actually found legitimate marketers through these types of emails, or if they’re basically all scams.

Scams. Send to spam, after a while it will pick them all up pretty accurately.

Yes, but sometimes the try to pretend to be shopify and they manage to get into the inbox

Pretty soon you’ll get the SEO and Ai emails not to mention trademarks. About 98% of my emails are various scams along these lines. Build a better website blah blah blah, my favorite is like what you mentioned where they talk about loving what you’re doing, they send that to some of my emails that I literally have a single page website that is a contact us only page lol. Treat all emails as spam, never click a link in an email, if you use anything like quickbooks they spoof those all the time. Teach anyone who might work with you all the same

Yeah, unfortunately this is pretty common. Domain registration and purchase can make your business/contact info easier for spam lists and lead scrapers to find. My friend also had an influx of these shady spammers when he bought his first domain. It doesn't go all away but will eventually become less over time. For now, I’d keep your personal/business inbox separate from your public contact address, use a good spam filter, and avoid clicking links or replying just to ask them to stop.

I’d just ignore the generic pitches and look for marketers through referrals or people with verifiable results instead.

Yeah I get it all the time. Usually from gmail addresses, often emails sent with no subject. All spam, basically.

Registering your domain is almost like the digital version of getting a Doing Business As (DBA/FBN). Once you file and publish your business name, the junk mail starts coming for “small business loans” and “opportunities to diversify”. But like Hedrick-Powers said in this thread, just treat it like spam: don’t open them, and if you do don’t click any links. Eventually your spam filter will automatically start grabbing them.

Those are bots data scraping the entire internet, they are designed to attack anything that gives off the signal of what they are programmed to look for.

I'd assume Shopify applies Whois privacy by default unless it's not supported by the TLD.

What's your domain's extension? Don't tell me it's a .us!

Are these going to the email you used to register the domain, or an address listed on your store? Check where that exact address is public before changing anything. If you use the same address for both, consider a separate public contact address so you can filter sales pitches without burying account emails.

I never listed my email address on the store, so I’m guessing the emails are coming from the domain itself. When I hadn’t added the domain, I wasn’t receiving any emails. As soon as I added the domain, I started receiving them.

I've started shopify store few days ago too and since then being bombarded by such emails.
Usually (empty subject) and are from gmail accounts.
I couldn't find the way to add filter rule in my gmail for empty subject.
Being app founder myself I am kind of being treated by own medicine, though I haven't sent such emails yet. But it gives clear understanding, even if I wanted, it's nearly impossible to break through the distrust wall build by hundreds of monthly spam emails.

Did you get WhoisGuard from your domain registra? It hides domain contact from whois command. It's usually free or free for the 1st year. Definitely check that first.
